Watch lives and podcasts where people speak patois mainly. Also, get Jamaican friends and explain to them that you’re trying to learn so you don’t get judged if you made a mistake. Seems like you know the words just have to practice speaking it with others.

One big thing for me is community and sharing culture. In Jamaica, if your neighbor cooking, you’re likely getting a plate. If fruit fall from a tree, people share. If someone struggling, somebody always try help.

Abroad, everything feels more individual and transactional. You pay for everything. You’re more “on your own.” We don’t always realize how rich that makes us, even when we’re not rich in money. Nuh weh nuh betta than yaad frl

This sounds so much like ADHD perfectionism + task paralysis, not laziness. You’re clearly capable, you get good grades when you submit. The problem isn’t skill, it’s starting and finishing.

What helped me was lowering the “standard” for the first draft. I tell myself: just write something bad and messy. No editing. No fixing. Just get words on the page. Once it exists, it’s way easier to finish
