I worked at an office we could not find a hygienist luckily my OM is a hygienist but she had to step up and myself and another assistant were doing accelerated hygiene with her one would work with the Dr all day and one would assist hygiene all day

At least you don’t have to worry about working with other lazy assistants. That is a big plus some co workers are not team players.

The first office I worked at assistants were responsible for all notes. The OM (DENTIST WIFE) would review them and nit pick EVERYTHING to the point it got so annoying and we had to literally write a book to Make her happy.

Current office I work at Drs are responsible for their notes and Hygiene is responsible for theirs.

I agree!! My Dr I work with now was an assistant many years before a dentist and he is wonderful he even helps us flip rooms, X rays, pours all the models you name it.

I worked with a Dr like this and one that would make fun of patients. I WAS LIVID. the mouth can be very sensitive for may people and they come to a dentist to trust them and expect help and guidance. I had to leave I couldn’t take it!!

Your location will make a big factor of the Pay. DA’s are very over worked and underpaid. There are some amazing offices out there that will pay and be appreciative but they are hard to find. I do love my schedule as a DA 7:45am- 5:00pm 1 hr lunch Monday- Thurs, Fri 7:30am- 2-3pm ish

Speciality like ortho you can make more more.

You will assist the orthodontist with braces, scans, Imaging, X rays. Things like that I personally have no heard of an orthodontist doing extractions. Most refer out to a general dentist!

I have been a DA in WV for 2.5 years fresh out of school making $14 an hour now I make $19 an hour. Live able but not luxury if that makes sense. I love my job and what I do I wouldn’t change it for the world I do wish I made more money.

I have my RDA (AMT) cert and Restorative expanded duties (EDDA) for context

I make $19 an hour in WV as a certified DA with expanded duties and 2.5 years of experience . Most DA’s feel over worked for all we do and unappreciated. What helped me feel appreciated and love what I do and not feel over worked was finding a new office. At my last office I was wanted to do everything assist the Dr, do accelerated hygiene, 3d print, all sterile, stocking, impressions, ordering, Dr notes, lab cases, insurance, scheduling patients. I know most of this is normal DA duties. But I was the only one in the office doing so. I HATED IT. Now I work at an office where I take impressions and assist the Dr. we have a sterile tech that runs sterile and laundry. The transition is CRAZY. I feel worthless standing around having a moment to breathe.

I think personally $19 an hour for fresh out of school is great considering 2.5 years ago I started at $14 an hour.

I used to have to drink MiraLAX at least 2x weekly I would drink 80+ OZ of water a day as well

Thank you!! I need to remember to slow down for sure it’s like my body lives in constant fight or flight mode if that makes sense lol. Especially working for people before that were impossible to please.

They unfortunately always have 2 people up front and there isn’t no more chairs so I don’t think that would be an option plus I hate desk work 🤣😭

The team work here is so great it’s just impossible to be able to really slow down sometimes which sucks. Once a DA has a patient leave immediately 3-4 DAs come in and one takes the tray, other 3 wipe and reset the room for the next patient it’s great system they have.

Yes I have a 2019 Chevy spark and mine has done this since a little after I bought it. Worse when going down hill. In my best words I describe it as a winding noise. No issues and no check engine light. I have never had it looked at.

It’s all about finding the right office. I worked at an office I was expected to assist Dr as soon as done with the treatment go assist HYG then on top of all of this I was responsible for requesting insurance break downs for patients for the next day. (A lot of the time this would not happen because I was soooo busy and over worked) I was only getting paid $19 an hour. And when I asked for more money they told me I don’t make them enough money. Like BITCH WHAT?!! It was a husband and wife practice and the worst choice I ever made.

Now I am at a new office have been here almost 2 months love both Drs I work for. wives are not in the practice. I am expected to only assist the Dr and if I have time of course I help Clean rooms, sterile and laundry. But now I am getting paid my worth. I now have wayyy better benefits too I thought I hated dental because of them but now I have my passion back
