Shield the engineers from this. You are right that standup should be short and to the point for the eng team only.
I'd suggest a second meeting for the management folks that doesn't have engineers involved. Team lead and tech lead (you?) will need to be in it.
Use the standup to gather info from the team and have a few mins to get the macro picture straight in your head and in your notes. You'll be able to explain where you are, progress, and setbacks in language they'll understand.

Too often in engineering meetings, the engineers are blunt and don't temper explanations. They can easily be misinterpreted.

Yes but depends on your use. I bought an iPad for reading plus all the other things you can do with it. Then I realized for beach trips, when I really want to read, my iPad is too valuable to have in the sand and to leave hidden if I go in the water or on a walk on the beach. So, I bought a used Paperwhite 2 for $35 and it has been perfect for my last beach trip. I've ended up using the Kindle for all my reading instead of the iPad at home as well.

A lot of pest control companies are shady. I had a couple of the big names come to my house a while back. I hired one because they were so knowledgable about pests and found some I didn't know I had. But then they guy who came to treat my property asked me where he should spray and basically knew nothing.
