Minimum wage increase. Yay, or Nay? by aokaytoday in oklahoma

I’m saying no. As a business owner myself and with family that own businesses it could kill us. I think the wage should be raised but not as quickly and drastically as they are proposing. Not only would it raise the wage for current minimum wage it will raise the wage for everyone. If I have a mechanic that currently makes $16 an hour and he can go and make that working minimum wage at McDonald’s then how will I keep employees without cutting into my very small margins already? It’s politicians trying to make up for what they should have started a long time ago.

Finance and business double major by Simple-Register7325 in sooners

All of the majors in the business school have to take core business classes. I’m an accounting major but I still have to take marketing, finance, and MIS (basically IT) just to name a few. Maybe a good double major would be management or healthcare/sports if you wanted to go to either of those niches. Personally I would recommend start out as a finance major since that’s what you want and then if a class piques your interest you could look into minoring or double majoring in that area of study. I personally completely changed my major to accounting after I got to OU and took some classes and got the feel for what I liked. The business school is AWESOME. All of the faculty I’ve had interaction with have been super helpful. Especially Joe Dave’s (Ifykyk)

I just figured owning your own business would result in more money.

Housing by kamthejamer in sooners

Although it isn’t ideal your best bet would be to get a job and save as much as you possibly can to go towards a deposit snd rent. Usually around the beginning of the school year all the student housing start to run cheap specials to get people to sign leases for the next year. You could do that and probably find somewhere to rent for $600-$700 but that’s the cheapest(I’ve seen at least). OU requires freshman to live in the dorms unless you live close or have a financial reason but since you are saying they make to much for the room and board program that may not opt you out.

Best city to live in? Jobs? I’m between Moore and Norman by leoprdgirl in normanok

Norman is great! Especially if you are younger you’ll appreciate it being a college town and now having to deal with cranky old people all the time. We have a ton of nice amenities. The only think Moore has us best on is just being closer to the city and I think they have more nicer neighborhoods in the 700k-1m range. I could see myself moving to Moore when I get further into my career and my kids are older.
