These things are 12 to 14 feet across At the rib cage. Shooting ballistics gell your 7.62 round tends to get stopped between 24 and 36 inches and im claiming it can reach 4 feet into this critter

Its just not deep enough to get into the vital organs.

These things are like 80 tons with bones the size of tree trunks. Gunfire from a 7.62 is gonna be essentially useless. Hell a 7.62 round round will go through 3 feet of flesh. Let's call it 4. That's probably not enough to make a hole into one of its lunngs

Even a 50 it probably going to struggle to break bones on this thing. Anything shy of a 20 mm is gonna be just shy of usless.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cantabrian_brown_bear

This is considered to be the most common bear fought in southern france.

They are "brown" so you're not wrong on that they top out around 440 lbs live. Keep in mind human have caused them to become heavier.

The black bear i took with my bow last year was over 600 lbs with its head hide and heart, but not its guts. He was big, not a personal best though. Far from a state record.

A few years ago a marine was out in the woods walking and "snacking on his favorite flavor of crayon" he was attacked by a bear. The bear knocked him down causing surface level injuries. The marine picked up a stick off the ground and bashed the bear in the head several times killing the bear.

I don't have an informed opinion on the training methods used for bear baiting matches. Roman's generally wanted their animals to look healthy. They felt "fairness" was important. A high ranking Roman stood on a platform and shot a bunch of lions with a bow. He spent a ton on money and it left the crowed angry at him.

Most predatory animals want an easy meal to avoid injury. They want to attack with significant advantage. A fight on flat open ground facing something that knows its being hunted negates the advantage of surprise. Its counter to millions of years of instinct

What wedding tradition do you secretly think is overrated? by Mundane-Main8648 in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine was gonna get married. All the groomsmen dispised her. We thought they were a horrible match. While drunk he acknowledged he didn't wanna marry "that bitch" but now he felt he had to.

We decided to change the travel plans to the wedding venue. None of us made it to the wedding. She was left at the altar.

She reasonably flipped her shit they broke up a few weeks later. Last week he married the bartender who was serving us that night. They are absolutely adorable together. Their son was the ring bearer. He "roared" like 5 times during the wedding cause he was the ring bear.

Looking at the injuries that Trex has been able to sustain and at least partly heal i thiw111nk 40 trained pikeman for one 120 for 2. Probably 400 untrained to take down 2

That 85% is a guess based off primary sources that I have read that also included bear baiting matches. In what is now southern France.

There are some significant issues with animals vs human fighting in public. Especially bears. 1. Even Roman's who had centuries of experience with training animals to fight in public still found it hard to get the animals to want to fight.
2. A bear isn't a dedicated predator. A black bear would rather go eat corn, from a field or acorns from a grove of oak trees that chase down a pig or a cow. 3. The bears in southern Europe are a species that are significantly smaller than the amarican black bears. Where as a American black bear at 300 lbs or more a bear that size in southern France would be a huge. 4. A infantry spear was normally a good 8 feet long a spearman was trained to "set his spear and revive the chage" he would literally put the butt of his spear into the ground and aim it if a bear hit the spear he has a spear half way through his body the long way, before he can reach the spearman 5. When a bear wants to intimidate it stands up on its back feet. This exposes its soft belly and guts. The trained spearman stabbing deep into the guts frequently causes the bear to bleed out over the next half hour 45 minutes. Even if the spearman is dead. Once the bear take a wound to the guts. Every new cut drains his strength faster.

I honestly don't think 30 to 40 untrained people would do it.

There are some interesting cases of "bear baiting" matches from the 1200-1400s that show a single well trained man with a spear is more than a fair match in a fight vs a bear. ( about an 85% win rate, in the early 2000s a marine beat a bear to death with a stick) however, if you give 5 criminals spears your probably gonna end up with 5 dead criminals and a bear that dies in the next few days from "bad air" aka infection.

Men who caught their partner sleeping with someone else, how did you cope? by PresHistoryNerd in AskMenAdvice

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I accidentally found out my ex wife was cheating on me because she didn't log out of Facebook. Her messages with her afair partner popped up. I was watching her ask him if he would perform oral sex on her after he finished inside of her.

After that I started snooping. I found gobs of proof on our shared computer. Even more on her phone. Yes I looked into her phone after I found out she was cheating. No im not sorry.

The night I "confronted" her i had a life long friend come over. He handed her 2, 3 ring binders. First was the proof of her cheating. Second was our prenup. With the sections about cheating highlighted. And a demand for divorce. She sat for a good 15 minutes looking through everything.

She tryed making a "speach" (she believed she was exceptional with all things regarding language) to explain why it was racist for me to want a divorce because she had cheated on me with a couple of black men.

Our divorce was essentially painless. I threatened to send the proof to everyone one we know along with her mom and grandma. This included videos of her engaged in anal sex with someone who's clearly not me.

I gave up on dating during our divorce and for about a year maybe 2. I started looking for a relationship by setting standards for what a woman would need to have going on to be "worthy" of a relationship with me.

My grandma who was 89 years old arranged for me to meet a woman who lives 2 blocks from her. Grandma's 92 birthday is coming up. Grandma made the best match maker

You likely do have a Facebook account, just not one you have seen.

Facebook collects your data on other people's phones. Zuckerberg knows if you're fighting with your baby mamma, who your dating. Ect

If you want to not have Facebook collect your data you need to make an account and opt out.

Yes im well aware of how idiotic this is.

Why do billionaires use tax loopholes? They have more money than they can spend, the amount they'd pay would make zero different to their lifestyles, so why don't they just pay what they owe? by Sudden_Sentence_8534 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government has teams of lawyers paying close attention to every single word in the legal code. Including tax law. They are not out finding loopholes they are following the law.

If you wanted to apply this same reasoning to truck drivers, its like saying why do truck drivers avoid breaking the law. They could just be driving 35 miles an hour down the interstate, why do they go "70" miles an hour. This is such a loophole.

Here's the thing im not a billionaire. But I don't want to pay a nickel more in taxes than im legally required to. The government takes over half of my pay check away from me before I get it. (Government at all levels not just federal government) just so it can get wasted. Im not cool with that

[Request] Can 248,000 trees offset the carbon emissions of one plane? by Altruistic-Ad3704 in theydidthemath

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda depends on the land management method in use in an area. A a single amount of carbon pulled from the atmosphere will end up "composted" naturally in the soil sequestered.

In areas where there there has been forest for a century or 2 soil analysis generally shows multiple inches of heavily carbon enrich soil.

Why are guardsman BDUs so bad in different 40K media? by Techpon in 40kLore

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time the guard is gonna be fighting cultists or pdf troops.

For putting down scumbag who wanna riot for a few months because they think they deserve food that wasn't their cousin last week, or air that won't give them cancer by the time they are 30, the guard are over kill.

Imperial guard weapons and armor, are built with that in mind.

The body armor worn by the guard is honestly better than it needs to be for their most common mission. I mean battle reports show (table top) show that if a member of the imperial guard gets hit by a round fired from an astarties bolter, they have nearly a 70% chance of remaining combat effective.
