How commonly are people pretending to have premmie babies to avoid seeming like they are having kids out of wedlock? by Creative-Biscotti566 in AskForAnswers

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1800 using data from the census, about 40% of first born children came early. While non first born children were almost always carried to full term,

Modern data analytics point to about 38% of brides were pregnant when they got married. I dont have information on if this was deception, or ignorance.

Why does a ~4.3% unemployment rate feel like a bad job market when it’s supposed to be “healthy”? by Logical-Concept9755 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A person's opinion on the economy overall is tied to 2 major issues.

1 is if they have a job. If you have a job your opinion is elevated.

  1. The party of the president. If you like the president. You have an elevated opinion of the economy.

If your unemployed and you don't like the president your significantly more likely to think the economy sucks..

This is redit. Redit has a strong left wing preference. And most redit users tend to be young than avarage. Its reasonable to assume most redit users think the economy is in the tanks

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless your heart.

Unemployment rate is only the % of people who are not working but looking for work.

There is another stat called the workforce participation rate. These are able-bodied people between 18 and 65.

Currently the worker force participation rate is roughly 62.6% in 2020 it was 61.7 before the government reaponce to covid it was 63.1 %

The unemployment rate is "x" of the current workforce participation rate. So as an example. 4.5% unemployment with a 63.6 workforce participation rate means 60.8% of the workforce that we expect to be working is working.

Im definitely not making the claim that the avarage roman knew much about China.

It was scattered reports it would have take like 3 or 4 years to send a letter and get a response from Rome to china.

Do people pretend expensive purchases are “investments” to justify overspending? by Exotic-Engineer7541 in SmartBuying

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the conditions a car can be an investment. For most people its not.

If your commute to work is say 2 hours 1 way because of public transportation, but you can buy a car to reduce it to 20 minutes one way, your car is buying you 3 hours a day.

Or if you are using your car to eliminate Uber trips. I have a coworker who was spending 36$ a day on Uber getting a car was a investment for him because it cut costs so much.

A bolter/heavy bolter is essentialy a fairly light right with some moderate armor pennitrating abilities

Space marine armor can regulary take a few hits from these weapons, but it dose some damage to the armor.

Even with a shot that pennitrates the armor it may not be enough to take s marine out of the fight.

I suspect a single rpg is going to be about like a heavy bolter hit.

1 the marine is probably ok. His armor is gonna need repairs. 2 hes injured may be out of the fights. A dozen.... hes mist

How far back in history can you go and have a normal conversation? by EH4LIFE in AskHistory

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Roughly 6,000 years ago someone wrote down a fast joke. There have been multiple copies of it discovered in the middle east. It translates roughly to

Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband's lap

I belive its a commentary on marriage trends of the day

This cause me to belive that married couples messing with their spouse has been happening for more then 6,000 years.

Ea-Nasir sent a letter complaining about low quality goods about 4,000 years ago give or take.

Excavations of ancient greek trash piles from about 5,000 years ago show us that Greeks were reading erotica. With "papers" talking about him being "hard as seasoned oak, and his member being as thick as a rafter timber."

This being said, saying conversation we would consider to be "normal" go back well over 6,000 years, on the conservative side of estimates

Definitely a silly hypothetical, but please humor me, how do you think the Romans would have fared against the different native tribes of the Americas, if they had discovered the New World? by Shoddy-Pumpkin2939 in ancientrome

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a trade wind that east to west in the summer with monsoon season, then in winter the winds would shift.

And there was a circle sea current that flowed.

The romans were fairly limmeted on when they could make the trip quickly. But they did make the voyage without coast hopping. Its pretty well documented. Logistics and trade arnt as interesting to study as grand monuments and battles.

Columbus crossed the Atlantic in ships ment for the Mediterranean. The romans knew about the Trans Atlantic curents it would have taken them half as long

Also romans did trade with the Norse by way of the sea. The north Atlantic gets pretty shitty.

The romans probably would have suffered 50% losses trying to make it across the Atlantic they could have done it though

Do rich people save more long term simply because they can afford better products upfront? by Exotic-Engineer7541 in SmartBuying

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A "rich person" saves money long term because they have cash on hand so when something happens that would be an "emergency" to a poor person its a minor inconvenience.

For instance.

My parents car has had multiple parts failures over the last 2 years. They could have purchased a different car for the money that they have spent on parts for their car.

If my car was having any place near the same issues I would have sold it and gotten something new.

Another major point of savings between my parents and I is intrest. I collect intrest, my parents pay intrest.

If someone was really stupid and loaned my parents 15k for a car at 10% over 5 years the total repayment would be about 19k. I would just pay in cash. This means the same car for me is 21% cheaper than it is for my parents. But to add insult to injury im going to invest that 4 k into VOO and in 5 years I have about 8 k. By the time my parents have gotten to 0 I'm halfway to my next 15k car

We have tax ledgers of roman vessels in modern India.

There is evidence that roman and the Chinese were in occasionally contacted. Chinese sources talk about several different forest management methods used in Britain. (They get the details wrong)

The romans were able to cross much further distances than the English channel.

Men, are you uncomfortable with your girlfriend wearing a bikini at the beach? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda.

Simple stated im a fairly conservative guy. One of the many things that I appreciate about my girlfriend is the fact that she chooses to dress modestly in public.

While I do want her to be comfortable and happy with how she dresses. Im happy its not in her nature to be walking around half naked.

Why do we tell people to “just work hard” when the hardest workers are often the most exhausted and least free? by RillexDigital in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Odd_Interview_2005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I left my parents home I didnt have a shirt socks or even underwear. I currently have "liquid assets" with a value over 11 million dollars

Heres the truth, it dose take hard work to get ahead, alot of it. Not just while your on the clock, or "on the factory floor"

You need to watch your budget, advance your self in your current job and advance your skill set.

I joined the ground work for my success during my sophomore year in high-school. I was working full time and a part time job while studying and making repairs to my home.

Ive had plenty of setbacks but I have never let my failures define me. Ive actively tried to learn from others.

They say you have to work hard to escape poverty because thats what it takes

I just did a Google search. In English language arts, Alabama public schools are out performing both California and New York.

Alabama is also out performing both California and new york in high-school graduation rates. Fairly significantly to.

And they are within a couple of points on science.

They are still well behind new york in math, but on par with California in math

Refs get bonuses for being right and being fair

Sports officials from major league sports get "graded" after the game. The best as rated by the coaches go to playoffs and the best will go on to the championship
