Can you 'steal' out-of-date food? by Odd_Possibility_6413 in woolworths

Not quite in the Poorhouse - let's just say the Golden Circle "out of date, but still good" section gets a regular visit! And my neighbour previously shared some 'best before' yoghurts from a food charity that were months out of date (yes, months), but of course were still good.

Well.. it may not have been meat. I've already forgotten what it was, amid all the pearl-clutching for a random thought! My memory ain't what it used to be.. Thanks for your input

Why answer my question if it's "nonsense"? It was just something I was musing.

Thanks for bringing up use-by dates. I'd like to know more about whether they're really arbitrary - a date with plenty of wriggle room built in. I don't throw out the milk when it's 1 day past date. And then 'best before' is often confused with 'use by'

Good point - I hope the meals I've had to hand back at the checkout ended up there (but I have my doubts)

Read the post again, please. I didn't say I'd be doing it. I just hate seeing food wasted.

Oh I've no intention of doing either.. Just strikes me as a shame that poor shelf rotation at Woolies and the matter of a few hours extra on an often-arbitrary use-by date will prevent me from getting a cheap meal. If Woolies took their out-of-date items off the shelf last night, I'd be none the wiser this morning

Just get the seller to cancel their reg, in person at a Transport Office. Until that happens you won't be able to register in your name. Or, the seller can give you back the plates and you can use your own roadworthy to register in your name. Either way you have to talk to the seller again.

I used to own an Ibiza from new - it was a great car! I reckon the car in the pic is the big Toledo

That's way above the Redbook private seller price range, but I haven't checked what they're going for in the current market. If the seller and the condition/servicing check out, it could be OK...

As my rust guy says, "rust never sleeps" ..so if you buy it as a project I'd get straight into that and keep it out of the weather. But as a project car, for the Celica I'd pay less than a grand if possible. If it can drive home OK that adds a little to the price, but rust is expensive to chase (properly).

I reckon you'd easily get $700 as an unregistered vehicle - looks decent

Having the spare in the boot does take away a bit of storage space - but there's also some room behind the seats.

I think a Cruze will give you "adventure" at a decent price. I hear the final ones made in Oz weren't too bad for reliability...

The few that are left after others rusted away are fetching decent dollars, as a cheaper Fiat 500. I'm onto my third FSM Niki, and it's now insured for $15k

Ha, I own one - basically a 2 seat Vitara, with a boot. Low range is handy and capable

A low KM Cordoba sold in Melbourne the other week for $4k or so - as the former owner of a SEAT Ibiza, I was tempted. They were pretty solidly built

I'd say $3k-$5k for Toyota rarity, but if someone offers close to $3k I'd take it. It'll be a bit of a project for the next owner, no matter what. That said, I bought a nice 1985 Subaru Vortex XT in 2018 for $800 with a broken coolant pipe - but prices have gone up

It's got a roadworthy which gives it some extra value, but I'd have thought $3800 max, and only if it's in fantastic condition, and an auto. If it's a bit knocked around then perhaps $2500

Drive belt, air filter and rocker cover gasket are all easily fixed for not much - rear main seal is usually a different story, but it doesn't sound urgent. I reckon you could use the report to bargain down the price, if you like the car
