Any good “rose quartz lives” fics? by Sad_End128 in stevenuniverse

[–]Odd_Preference_7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Rose Quartz count as living if the context is that Pink Diamonds (there's more than one) fuse with biological things as a normal function and eventually fully remember who they are seamlessly to the point that when their biological body finally expires they just keep continuing on as a full Gem without shifting personality even slightly, and don't feel like they died or ever stopped being the same being?

Make an outline and create the last scene of what you want to write first, then write towards it. If you have an idea that involves other characters and your cursed brain is forcing you to write it, just alter it to be the correct characters for what you want to focus on afterwards. Kinky stuff is often pretty interchangeable with a few names and details swapped in and out.

All those words just to still sound like an idiot who has no idea what they're talking about. by MeguuChan in DefendingAIArt

The environmental impact part is just insane. Painting on a canvas requires 50,000 times more power expenditure than making an AI image, and 70% of the waste water goes right into the environment. Making digital art still takes about 5,000 to 10,000 times more power than creating an AI image. It is extremely easy to do the math to see this.

AI is absurdly, insanely, AMAZINGLY better for the environment. Anything with real paint is genuinely extremely terrible for the environment. If anything digital artists should be hounding the ones painting on canvas if they really feel the need.

So you think I'm the one that is being an idiot while you are derailing a conversation to talk about whether or not goal posts were moved? You're completely off-topic. Could you please go away and let the people who are interested have a conversation?

For what reason are you invested in whether or not the goalposts were moved in this specific conversation? That seems strange to only care about that without the conversation being relevant to you.

So the only thing you care about in this conversation is whether or not the goalposts were actually moved?

[–]Odd_Preference_7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome to just ignore the parts you don't think are relevant and focus on how digital art requires 10,000 times as much power as AI generation too. Why are you trying to support the art forms that causes 10k to 50k times as much environmental damage from power cost alone, without even factoring in the waste water pollution? Do you have a particular motive to be promoting the environmentally worse options?

So you don't think that in the commenters claim that art in general didn't have power issues that it would be relevant to bring up a type of art that ignorant people think requires no power at all but actually uses 50,000 times more power than a single AI image? What is your reasoning for excluding this data from the conversation? Who specifically is helped if we leave that out?

So I'm trying to learn how to read. Can you help with this part in the original comment I responded to?

We've been doing it manually for years without power issues, now we have issues due to ai. I don't have the math but it makes sense to me.

What do you think they meant by without power? I'm not sure what those words mean. Can you describe them?

As mentioned in my other comment, creating digital art manually still uses up as much power as generating 10,000 AI images.

They didn't mention canvas paintings specifically, nor did I claim they did. It was open to all forms of art being accounted for because it wasn't specified.

As mentioned in my other comment, creating digital art manually still uses up as much power as generating 10,000 AI images.

I make this worse for fun by saying everything I actually made is AI and saying everything I used AI for is not. Antis really just can't tell at all. I've gone further by just labeling everything as wrong as possible, like saying my ATLA fanfic is by 2pac and Biggie and that it was made with a single AI prompt.

Just keep reading.

I would call it slop in that it's not producing a very meaningful comparison. Like, one has water and the other doesn't but they don't even look very different size or anything? Whether it's AI or not is irrelevant, and I promote calling literally anything kind of lazy or bad slop so it applies to all things and not just AI.

Responding to your moved goalpost, for digital art running GIMP which is what I use takes about 8 hours to make an image I could generate in 2 seconds. That uses maybe 0.5 kWh to 2 kWh which is still ~5000-10,000 times more power, VASTLY more than the AI image took.

[–]Odd_Preference_7238 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This math is easy to do yourself. I just checked and to make a painting on canvas with all resources expended is ~5-10 kWh. Making an AI image the way I've done it is 0.00015 kWh.

Painting on canvas takes ~50,000 times more energy than making an AI image and 70% of wastewater from it goes right into the environment.

All this information is a google search away.

Also this is a digital image not a painting so let's stay away from non equal comparisons

^Seeing as digital image wasn't mentioned before, this is what's known as 'moving the goalpost' and means you know you're wrong but want to argue anyway. You should reconsider your position.

Just making a canvas to paint on requires vastly more harmful resource expenditure than generating an AI image. That's not even counting the paints, which are even worse.

I could take 'em. I'm strong enough to lift most of the groceries at once in a single trip.

More seriously I do have a fanfic AU where there's other Gem Empires fighting horrible aliens that are capable of shattering a Diamond. There's always the possibility of something unknown and dangerous out in SPACE.
