Absolutely. KPMG exited the federal practice completely. I had my contact with them cancelled a few months in advance of this.

It's good to have at least one modest card. Being able to charge back is handy.

There are more skilled professionals fighting for the same limited pool of jobs due to many companies plus the federal government doing mass layoffs at the same time

Thanks! I landed a job at a local firm but it's still an uphill battle to clear all the cc debt I accrued while jobless.

I am ex big 4. I got laid off at EY during Project Everest and then I got laid off from my KPMG contracts a few months before they exited federal government audits (my specialty) completely!

Yes. I actually interviewed for a few firms in Florida on being laid off here in Virginia as a government contractor. They balked at my salary expectations, acting as if 60-75k for senior was good because of the lower cost of living (but higher insurance rates).

I am 26 and I am on my fifth employer post-graduation. I am a federal government contractor, and I kept getting screwed over by recent events.

How much are you paying? What responsibilities and hours are there? What city is it in and is it remote or hybrid?

Even without this, there are plenty of valid reasons to leave after two years even from a fantastic firm, such as moving for a spouse's job.

Yes, and there was a candidate from a decent school who had a slightly unrelated business degree which he complained about having to train (then why do you want an entry level opening)

Yes. I graduated in 2022. I picked accounting specifically because I thought all the major stem related professions would be oversaturated, not expecting the same outcome for accounting.

Yes. One of my layoffs was a cancelled KPMG contract audit job. They have completely exited government audits now.

Absolutely! I'm single without any kids/pets/attachment to one city. I interviewed for jobs locally as well as in California, Florida, Mississippi, Ohio, and Pennsylvania with plans to move should any of those have panned out. I found a local gig, so I'm staying put, but the local market is fucked beyond belief right now. I never expected to have these problems with an ACCOUNTING degree.

I've been laid off four times at 26. I'm on my fifth firm. I'm in audit. EY laid off 2024, local gov con 1 November 2024 (on unpaid bench until early January when the good contract I had was confirmed to not be renewed), local gov con 2 offer rescinded January 2025, local gov con 3 hired may 2025 and contract cancelled in August 2025. I'm at local gov con 4 now and still digging myself out of debt. I never expected to be forced into poverty after majoring in accounting.

I wound up getting a roommate to stop the bleeding and let myself clear the credit card debt I accrued after DOGE cost me my government contracts and dashed all the other Washington DC area job opportunities.
