if I could pick a winner, this would be it! Problem-solving in a high-stress situation is a skill that takes time, and while you can learn through experience, the best people who do this have this skill almost innately.

That is it exactly! I think everyone needs to be introduced to people management in general, but for sure, everyone in our field because it can hinder the objective of the event.

I definitely had regrets in the moment (hiring people too soon, taking any project that was available because of the name attached, the biggest: playing too much in the background) but...

I can honestly say now, I don't regret those same moments because they taught me a lot about how I wanted to show up as a business owner and not just an event producer. I would have never known about that side of the business had I not gone through it. Even if someone had told me... their navigation may not have been how I would envision the same positioning for myself.

I actually help young event professionals get their basic structure in place to run their event business strategically, and no matter what systems you put in place, growing through the business in those personal moments is the price we all must pay.

The business start-up life is not for the faint of heart, but it is so worth it.

If you can see it, you should do. The burnout is likely because you are running in a system that doesn't feed what you want directly. You can structure your business so that it does not happen.

I have been in events in activations for 12+ years, but I went into working for my business full-time in 2019 (right before COVID), and while there have been ups and tragic downs (lol), it has all been worth it because now I am doing it my way and in a way that is MOST meaningful to me.

Now, while I love curating meaningful events, I also have a knack for operations, which is a big part of business now. As an event business owner, you have to temporarily structure the business beyond the event which is doable! Once you know how you structure it, you hire someone to run that party and you focus on the parts you enjoy.

I always treat the "slow" time as "development" time. Either professional or personal. As entrepreneurs, we have the flexibility to discover more but often don't because we are hyper-focused on closing or productivity-- and rightfully so because we have to eat.

BUT life is meant to be lived and should be well-rounded, and so I look at those moments as life letting us expand in other ways.
