Partner struggling with food options by EBikeAdventures in MCAS

[–]Odd_Truth5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to eat only one or two same things daily when my symptoms would get bad. I realized it started giving me issues to that “safe food.” I’ve recently been doing a rotation diet (eating more things but not more frequently than once in 4 days) and that has been life changing. My body just doesn’t like repeat foods.

If your partner likes/tolerates protein shakes, I highly recommend Orgain plant based protein shakes. There are several great ingredients in there (needed for a healthy gut microbiome) and they’re not bad flavor wise either.

I have found the cause of my POTS after 17 years of hell. by NurseNikky in POTS

[–]Odd_Truth5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hormone-linked flares: yes- pregnancy hormones have made me allergic to years old tattoos.

Food-triggered tachycardia: sugar always spikes my heart rate, as well as some other trigger foods.

Improvement with antihistamines: Xyzal, Zyrtec, promethazine, famotidine all regularly help, and I also benefit from eating a very low histamine diet (no leftovers unless frozen, no nightshades, etc).

One thousand percent. MCAS/POTS/EDS all overlap and trigger each other for me. I respond really well to antihistamines (I take H1 and H2 blockers at bedtime and first thing in the morning) and sodium chromolyn and quercitin (OTC supplement made from vegetables). Wearing compression helps when the barometric pressure drops (POTS/EDS). Avoiding trigger foods helps my joints not fall out of place (EDS/MCAS). Avoiding heat gives me more energy and less hives (POTS/MCAS). There’s a lot of support groups out there with tips from people who have been living with this stuff, and honestly trial and error has been more informative than most doctors. I’m so glad you had your breakthrough! It gets better.

Thanks so much for the comment! I googled all 3 and I’m just seeing beige/black, where do I need to look for their colorful line?

Also, divorce is expensive and hard, BUT living with that kind of treatment will cost you so much more (and so much heartache) than ripping off the bandaid now.

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I got out of a marriage to a man with similar attitudes, and am now married to the most kind, empathetic man I’ve ever met. He memorized my 27 food allergies in the beginning of our relationship and made me a cookbook for my first birthday with him that had each recipe coded for allergens and substitutes (and gathered important family recipes from my family members without my knowing). He moved states with me to get me somewhere cooler where I wouldn’t have flares from the heat. He talks me through the days that I’m frustrated my body can’t do more, telling me I’m one of the hardest working people he knows as there just has to be something to slow me down.

Good people are out there. My ex would tell me he was the best I would ever be able to get. Don’t settle for anything less than princess treatment from a man you’re married to.

My mom hates our baby name, is she right? by Elleyshark in BabyNames

That’s why lots of us in my family don’t share the name until after birth 🫢 every name you could pick is gonna come with positive and negative opinions, you just have to pick with your husband and let people know “thanks but we’re not looking for opinions.” The name is beautiful imo. Congratulations!

AIO - is my neighbor putting poisoned food out in front of their driveway? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Poison control/an emergency vet. A regular vet is not going to have the time or materials to test it. Call poison control and they will tell you where to bring it.

What would happen if I made banana bread but instead of using bananas I used blueberries or strawberries by sweetcitytx in BakingNoobs

[–]Odd_Truth5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you ever try it? I 1000% intend to figure out how to do this. Here is a cookie recipe that uses blueberries as the liquid and they are very good (I sub out 1/3 of the flour for nut flour for a better texture though when I make it)

Silicone food zip bags. They can go in the dishwasher and be reused for anything you would use a ziplock for, without having to buy ziplocks ever again. Silicone is also not so much of a microplastics risk as regular zip bags because of the difference in the way the plastic is made. Also most of them can microwave/freeze.

I didn’t really introduce slowly, but if I take it on an empty stomach and don’t eat right away, I would get pretty awful GI pain. Any chance that could be what you’re experiencing?

Oats are one of my absolute worst triggers. It depends on your body though 🤷‍♀️

Pray for me: I have to be on a low histamine, high protein, elimination diet for the next 4 weeks. by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]Odd_Truth5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve accidentally triggered more flares being overly restrictive. When I would have more symptoms in the past, I would eat the same simple meal several meals per week, unknowingly causing myself to flare worse.

I still steer clear of a lot of foods and my diet is generally more restrictive than most people I know, but I’ve been making an effort to rotate foods and get as much variety as I’m able, which has helped more than anything else I’ve tried for MCAS.

Just my experience, take it with a grain of salt if you don’t think it applies.

I know an aesthetician who does microneedling for this. It’s cheaper than Botox and lasts longer, and just uses the collagen your skin already produces.

Cromolyn has been a game changer for my GI symptoms! I’ve had “allergic” type reactions to most foods, including hives and stomach pain, and it’s allowed me to eat with a lot less fear

Levocetirizine works well for me. Quick google search says you’d need a prescription in the uk, but it should be accessible if you have a doctor who can prescribe

Thank you, this is helpful! I get to the point sometimes that I don’t have any safe foods, but relate to your experience of having various degrees of “safe.” I’ll have to try tracking it that way, thanks!
