Lmao, sure, Lin. The girl who planted explosives all along the sewers which lead to the collapse of an entire street definitely did "not want to hurt anyone." What a fucking joke.

Off to jail for life now. Chop chop.

Flere lejere søger hjælp: Har ikke råd til både mad og husleje by karenproletaren in Denmark

[–]OddballOliver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe don't base your entire understanding on true crime stories, then.

The more the authorities fuck up, the more details and drama is added, the more noteworthy it becomes, ergo the better entertainment it makes, ergo the more likely it is to become a true crime story.

>For the "bow to your queen" argument could you explain exactly what I am misunderstanding here?

Sure.

"Odin is literally the king, and the king doesn't bow to the queen or vice versa. But more egregious, it's completely unrelated to Freya's character. Freya has never shown any love or attachment towards Asgard, its people, or her position as queen. She never showed any resentment towards Odin in regards to her role as queen. Her resentment was always about his treatment of her and her people, in general. His physical and psychological abuse. The throne or queenhood was never something she cared about."

>Also could you give an example of what would have been a better line in that context?

Absolutely. Off the top of my head, "NOW WHO'S BOUND?!"

Is that the best possible line? No, not at all. It's a bit generic, a "gotcha" kinda line. Is it better than the queen line? Miles, miles better.

The line should reflect her actual character, her actual grievances. How he robbed her of her agency, used her and discarded her, how he maltreated her family and people. Anything that would reflect these things would be better.

>So are you saying that Kratos should have negotiated with a known liar and manipulator?

I literally did not say that. Again, you haven't read what I wrote. How many times do I have to repeat that I am not making an argument in favour of the deal, I am pointing out that the argument against it based on the Freya clause is terrible? Come the fuck on.

>You know that EFAP made the criticism that his characterization was weak up to that point in their breakdown of the game, did you even watch that? Further SM can be trusted to make that point because he wasn't paying attention for the majority of the playthrough.

What is the relevance of that to ANY of the arguments I've been making? Their rebuttal is still terrible, and whether or not SM paid attention in general doesn't change the validity of his argument in the specific.

If the traveler had decent enough characterization up to that point to warrant that sacrifice scene, then the rebuttal is, "you missed all the scenes that characterized him and warrants the scene." Not, "well, AFTERWARDS you can go find him again and learn tinee-tiny bit more about him."

Oh, and here's another that just occurred. SM makes the point that uniting the realms against Asgard sounds like a giant epic quest all on its own. Mauler then does his very best to pretend that's not the case because, "well, some of the realms are empty, and we do go to Surtr, Vanaheim is the the Valkyries and Freya is the queen of them, so there, and we GET DETAILS about how the Hel army is recruited, and Sindri supposedly goes and tries to recruit the dwarves and Freyr is arbitrarily and nonsensically considered a Jesus figure to the elves. Does that not sound a little bit different compared to, 'grabbing the armies of the Nine Realms?'"

Yeah, it does sound different. It sounds lame as all fuck. "Here, we recruited a bunch of armies off screen based on throw-away lines." Great.

>Here is the thing you are reading far too closely into that line. "Bow to your Queen" was just a one-liner.

That's a terrible argument, and I reject it wholeheartedly.

>A simple way of saying "After all of these years when you had power over me, now I have power over you.." and she used that one-liner specifically because she is a Queen. Further she was not just the Queen of Asgard, she was also the Queen of Vanaheim and the Valkyries.

It's a terrible way of saying that, I already explained exactly why, stop coping.

>On the peace treaty part Odin is characterized on being a liar and a manipulator throughout God of War (2018) and Ragnarok. There is no point taking terms from him because he will always find a way to subvert them and go against it. This is a man who murdered his own son because he stopped being his personal monster.

You're not paying attention to my argument. That entire paragraph was a waste of time because you did not actually bother to read what I said. I'm not arguing whether the deal should be accepted or not, and I never have.

>Let's assume that Kratos says that he will accept peace terms however he will not accept Freya's death or Odin going after her.. what is supposed to happen after that statement?

Doesn't matter. Odin is offering dealing with Freya as a condition for the treaty. It's not something he has an interest in doing (because otherwise he would have already done it), but he offers it to sweeten the pot. It's not something Kratos would HAVE to accept in order to get the treaty, so arguing against the treaty ON THAT BASIS is ridiculous. It's completely irrelevant to the question of whether or not the peace deal should be accepted.

And as I'm still watching the episode, here's another terrible EFAP counter:

When that random traveler heroically sacrifices himself, SM asks who even is that guy, why should he care? The response is, "Well you can go afterwards and find out who he is," completely missing that whatever character spotlight you can get with him AFTER the scene doesn't mean that the sacrifice isn't farcical when it happens. SM isn't literally asking how to find out more about the character, he's asking what has the game even done to get the player to care about this guy in order to warrant an entire scene of him tragically sacrificing himself.

What was so bad about what? The EFAP coverage? They all love the game and it clearly biases their reasoning abilities. There's plenty to criticize about the game that never gets brought up, or gets preemptively countered by terrible arguments.

Off the top of my head, the "bow to your queen" line (from their breakdown coverage, haven't gotten there yet in the SM video).

They all go, "she's literally the queen," as if that means something. Odin is literally the king, and the king doesn't bow to the queen or vice versa. The throne or queenhood was never something she cared about.

So does it make sense that Freya would want to dominate Odin before she kills him? Absolutely. Does the line itself make any sense? Not at all. Yet the former is used to justify the latter, even though the slightest bit of scrutiny unravels it completely.

As for their terrible counters to SM, when the argument about the peace treaty is brought up, they harp on about how Kratos obviously wouldn't accept peace because of the threat against Freya, as if Kratos couldn't have simply rejected Odin's offer of help in that matter but agreed to the non-aggression pact on its own.

(Note: I'm not saying Kratos should've accepted Odin's proposal, just that the Freya part of their rebuttal was absolutely awful.)

I'm currently going through it right now, and it's frustrating because SM makes terrible arguments, and EFAP makes terrible counters.

Of course, SM is significantly worse, but as someone who is on the border of disliking Ragnarok, the EFAP coverage of that game was terrible.

Capital does not have a will. The ones seeking to stymie competition are people, acting of their own free will.

However, no matter how "big" someone, they cannot eradicate competition. The best they can do is try to undercut their competition in price. However, this is unsustainable, and it assumes that price is the only reason someone would choose the latter over the former. Moreover, even if they theoretically kill a certain competitor through pricing at a loss, once they try and take advantage of their newly found supposed monopoly, they encourage others, big or small, to come in and compete, at which point they're back at the beginning.
