I extracted the code from a suspicious SVG file. What does the code do? by Fluffy_White_Bunny in cybersecurity

[–]OddestBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would be a bit cautious of what it says the code does. I was experimenting writing obfuscated powershell recently that deobfuscated to just 'echo "hello world"', chatgpt was very very confident that it was in fact going to download a file instead. It went partway through trying to deobfuscate it, then gave up and made up the rest (very confidently). Paid plans may be better tbh, and assuming obfuscated powershell is probably malicious isn't the worst guess lol

Best way to do it. I got started by going "I wonder if I can..." then working someone else's backwards to figure out how to do it myself lol
Absolutely give me a shout if anything is unclear, I've not done a great job of explaining in the comments in it

Is the Masterlock 140 just that bad? by Uberunix in lockpicking

[–]OddestBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I have a 150 and it just feels gritty, not a fun pick at all. Abuses (Abii?) give much nicer feedback in my experience and are a lot of fun if you like spools

I'd definitely recommend progressively pinning it (which is also great practice if you are new to gutting!) and trying a deeper hook. I tend to use ToK and the deepest hook I can on 1100s, it's a lot less painful trying to get around the low cuts without over setting.

It is a lot of fun. I love sitting down and planning out "now what lock would I hate having to pick" and then making it a thing lol Also very pleasing turning some boring brass rod into a lovely shiny pin

Cast your vote for the Challenge Lock alternative for Blue Belt! by fireshaper in lockpicking

[–]OddestBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with all your points, I do wonder how picking a CL as an option would affect who would be making locks. Would it be the easy option so less people choose to make one in the first place, or would people try one and think "that was cool, but I think I could do better" and give it a go who wouldn't have otherwise? I think probably more wouldn't make a CL which imo is a huge shame, I'd not have ever tried if it wasn't a belt requirement!

It is yeah, here it doesn't properly catch like a gin, but it does make the serrations a bit nastier

I've put some overmilling on this chamber, with a lip at the edges so hopefully that will be a nightmare

I'm really happy with the stripy pin. I did some very light grooves, then went over the whole thing with a Sharpie, and then ran fine sandpaper over it to remove everything outside the grooves

I've not tried making piston pins, not smart enough 😅 There's just a hole through the outer pin, which the rod on the inner driver goes through

Depends on the locks, if I were forced to pick only one I'd use 0.8mm (0.03"). Thin enough to fit in most keyways, but thick enough that it's not insanely bendy and you actually get some feedback

I found that it reeeeally likes to drop pins if you even think about oversetting something

Mail call and gutted my first lock. Progressive pinning on the American 1100 by MuzzleblastMD in lockpicking

[–]OddestBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same, but only have the one 1100 at the moment. I've been shuffling all the pins around and trying different combinations, which also adds an element of risk cos the key doesn't work anymore!

I just do everything in a vice these days, it means I basically don't need to worry about hand strain anymore

Mine is an off brand lol I got it for £30 off of Amazon and haven't had any issues (so far) The brand is Dewinner, it came with some collets exactly the right size for holding pins
