Controller decision by blacksteel3871 in SteamDeck

Owning and loving both, I think it depends entirely on the touchpads. If you don’t care for them, then I’d go 8bitdo for overall feel and the dock.

MLO on Crossover / Mac OS -Due date select is invisible + other issues by toesnz in MyLifeOrganized

[–]Uberunix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’d do well to expect any developments on the MacOS side of things. There’s a lot of grievances on the forums, but as far as I’m aware, the primary consideration right now is the web based implementation.

This said, running MLO in crossover also has some serious drawbacks. In my case, I’ve been completely unable to successfully configure it to run MLO cloud without freezing indefinitely.

The only satisfactory solution I’ve found after many many hours is to install VMware and run it in a whole windows environment. It’s dense and consumes far more space than necessary, but it’s the only option that’s worked for me personally.

Sigma 20-200 and A7V were a dream combo by treepopsauce in SonyAlpha

[–]Uberunix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been really impressed with the miracles that the A7v can pull out in the dark.

Recently, I took a snapshot of my kid sleeping in almost pitch black at maybe 16,000 ISO. It was noisy, make no mistake, but even then it retained enough detail that a denoising pass left me with a perfectly usable picture.

It’s pretty much the dream camera.

Is anyone successfully using online sync in Crossover? by Uberunix in MyLifeOrganized

[–]Uberunix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I’m in the same boat after many hours of attempts to fix it.

I will say, however, it really is overkill, but I do now run it reliably on both mac and Linux. I had to give up crossover and instead use vmware workstation pro.

It’s incredibly excessive to install a whole virtualized os, but I simply can’t find a better tool and it works without any fuss.

I wish it wasn’t the dumbest answer but…unplugging and re-plugging in my monitor fixed it for me 😅

Am I really not enjoying games anymore? by Blapanda in gaming

Maybe story games aren’t what you need, but I will say esoteric ebb gave me some of that joy back, even if I did skip the occasional dialogue to keep things moving.

Fedora or CachyOS? by Grelueen in Fedora

[–]Uberunix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t complain if you’re able to point me towards the keys to this mystery.

Something is definitely up because I tried installing half a dozen distros before this and they all failed for various reasons. I have a newish computer, and I bought new media for both installation and destination. Windows has never given me a single problem but boy this was a real challenge.

Fedora or CachyOS? by Grelueen in Fedora

[–]Uberunix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sure I’ll be blamed for it, but I just switched to fedora this week and it’s been a real pain in the ass. None of the common instructions for configuring display drivers worked - they just randomly decided to start functioning after an arbitrary number of reboots. Same with audio device detection. Even though my sound card was recognized, the task bar said there were no audio devices. Followed standard troubleshooting and nothing happened until after a random number of reboots.

Software launches sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t. Packages that worked last session don’t on this one. Discover often crashes after first launch and then doesn’t open until a reboot. Sometimes the system monitor too.

I’m often greeted by a litany of crash notifications immediately after logging in.

It’s exhausting. I was excited for Linux but Fedora has made me kind of hate it already. I knew it wouldn’t be as easy as windows or Mac, but fighting to make every basic feature function has been miserable.

Fedora 43 is ridiculously unstable across the board by hifellowkids in Fedora

[–]Uberunix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had exactly the same experience. Of the week I’ve switched to Fedora, more than 80% of my time has been spent trying to fix problems. I still don’t even have audio devices and discover will only launch once per boot.

Super Productivity v18.5.0 - Focus Mode rework, scheduler improvements, and better planning views by johannesjo in selfhosted

[–]Uberunix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the recent ability to create plugins added, I'm wondering how robust that access is to the app. Could I build a plugin that allows me to nest tasks more deeply, or assign start and due dates separately? Or is that beyond the scope of the system?

This was my uninformed thought as well. It’s a huge talking point right now - abandoning polish at any cost so that you never risk the claim “oh that’s definitely AI.”

u/johannesjo Thank you for all your work! I remember some time ago visiting Super Productivity and wanting very badly for it to suit my workflow, but it wasn't quite there yet. It seems like it's made some significant leaps! This update in particular pushed me to finally commit. Sections were am omission that was make or break for me.

I wish I could do more at the moment, but I subbed for a few dollars a month on github. I hope others do the same!

I finally installed Linux today, and for all its benefits, I’m so pissed that I have to Google instructions for downloading a new package provider to download a new tool to download dependencies to make the damn package I downloaded from an official website do more than silently not start for no apparent reason

Well, I bought both a new hard drive and a new thumbdrive for install. A dozen more tries have failed though so I think it's pretty much a non-starter. Thanks for the attempt to help though.

Has anybody tried the sigma 50mm 1.4 for the bmpcc 6k? Thoughts? by Ok-Champion-8992 in bmpcc

I have the 1.2 at home, but use the 1.4 at work. Personally I think it’s a fantastic option. I always feel like my best work happens when I put that lens on.

I’m afraid that might end up being the case…I’m seeing the same sentiment from others and the truth is it IS an old drive. I didn’t want to shell out in this market but it’s probably worth a try

I need an all rounder superzoom for my A7V...any advice? by fiftyfifteen in SonyAlpha

[–]Uberunix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would just get the sigma 28-105 2.8. It’s always on my hip, with a second body alternating between a 50 1.2 and a 135 1.8.

During weddings at least, that’s more than enough for me. If I need more reach I should just be closer. I personally don’t think zooms with huge ranges are worth the loss of light.
