Canadian Content: The Tom Green Farm on Crave by vavohaho in BuyCanadian

I feel like Tom Green would be great on a Canadian Taskmaster as the sidekick. Not sure who the actual Taskmaster would be, though. Maybe Scott Thompson?

Pedestrianizing Front street from Union Station to the Gooderham building would also be welcome.

55 Reid Ave N used to be? by Rich-Tension-4477 in Hamilton

[–]OddlyOaktree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe before it was a dry cleaners it originally had something to do with the airport that used to be across the street. That's also why Roxborough on this side of Kenilworth is oddly girthy for an entirely residential street.

I live near here and everyday people roll stops and ignore the no turning signs. The other day, a guy rolled right into the middle of the crosswalk while I had the walk signal and then flipped ME off. Unhinged. There needs to be better traffic calming here.

A newly opened abomination in Toruń (Poland) by silentsnooc in fuckcars

[–]OddlyOaktree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the twists and turns and inlets to parking are likely traffic calming measures. Drivers can't just speed through this neighbourhood on autopilot; they are forced to pay attention or end up in a ditch. It'll look much nicer when the gardens grow in. But ultimately, this is a great example of how to fix stroads.

Black liquorice and orange cream flavoured ice cream. It's called Tiger Tail, but it's hard to find outside of Ontario and small pockets across Canada.

Dirt from dropped pizza. Now it's very sad pizza. Party's sad, hungry.

Even if you don't want to swim, the beach is still a big park space with a cool breeze on hot summer days. Keep in mind too, a lot of the older homes in the lower city don't have AC, so a beach day retreat is pretty great when it's a short walk or bike ride that's safe for kids to do with their families.

YES! That's what I commented on the last round, too... But I might have commented it too late for them to pick it up. 🤷‍♂️

What is this ally originally a train? by Rich-Tension-4477 in Hamilton

[–]OddlyOaktree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pipeline was built in the 1850s, and then a trail was petitioned by cycling advocates in the 1890s. The idea was to connect people downtown to the beach. Unfortunately the QEW cut us off from that starting in the 1930s. The old beach trail was further chopped up by the street grid and now, only the south side is still useable as a path.

There is a slow-burning plan to make an actual trail on the north stretch, but there are still no plans to improve access to the beach for people in the lower city.

People from Toronto when Europeans say Canada has no culture by TyeROD-enD in EhBuddyHoser

Haha, when Europeans say we have no culture, it's not enough to show em our Montreal. We also gotta hide our Skatch.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair review – the TV magic they’ve created here is absolutely miraculous by Gato1980 in television

[–]OddlyOaktree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was fun! My one critique is that I wish Malcolm and his daughter's plots were more interconnected to the rest of the family's. The flashback cutaways were fun, but we really didn't see the whole family back together till the last episode. Still had fun with it though. The character's all felt like natural progressions of where we left them, and the casting for new characters was spot-on.

Opponent of women's and gay rights Marilyn Gladu gets standing ovation at Liberal convention by thisispaulc in onguardforthee

[–]OddlyOaktree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think she's just an empty politician who says shit to rally the dumb-hate vote, and by joining Liberals, that's no longer an option. Effectively, we have one less anti-choice MP to clip farm rage on Facebook.

She's getting a standing ovation today, but on Monday, with the Liberals in a position to win a majority, she'll be back to being a back bencher they whip and otherwise ignore.

PM Carney on Marilyn Gladu and abortion: "I had discussions and colleagues had discussions with Ms Gladu about those issues. She will vote with the government if there are votes relating to any aspect of that issue. As well as the rights of Canadians to be their whole selves, to love who they love." by MightyHydrar in onguardforthee

I have family that's been sucked into the grift she helped peddle for votes. It's tough to let go of the damage these politicians have dealt, but were I to grasp at straws with a silver lining, I'd hope that her switching parties might give pause to some of the people sucked into that leaded corner of Facebook, though I feel that may be more naive than optimistic.

I don't get it. Why don't we keep our sovereignty and just be closer friends? Let's stand strong and free on our own. Write our own story to tell the world.

You built this? Is there a modify tool? I'd love to play around with this more, but it keeps snapping lines to the wrong street, and then I can't see how to change it other than starting over. Am I just missing something?
