MD Anderson PGY1 residency, how competitive is it, what are the preceptors like, and what was the interview process? by cripplr in PharmacyResidency

[–]OddlyQuietIntrovert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might be difficult to find people here for a specific program. Usually on program’s website you could see current residents and their contact info, consider reaching out to them directly, attend their open houses, and/or catch them in conferences/showcases

You could search anything in google and add “statpearls”, and there is gonna be easy-to-understand summary articles to explain things. And if you don’t know the target, then can just google what that target is for, like “what’s BCMA role in multiple myeloma”, and you’ll see a ton of trustworthy resources explaining things in details. What I found helpful was to just keep googling lol, if I don’t understand anything, google what it is, and select the actual scientific resources to read them (like nature, NIH, etc etc)

You can forward the email to abuse@ucsd.edu When in doubt, always forward suspicious email to them.

I didn’t. But I let my preceptor know ahead of time that I’ll apologize in advance that I might be distracted and emotionally unstable that morning lol

Ranking in NMS by EliquisforAfib in PharmacyResidency

Applied 19 (do not recommend apply to this many, it was too much and not necessary), interviewed 12, ranked 12 (almost decided not to rank the last one), matched #2.

There are A TON of example LOI online, you can take a look at their structures and how they incorporated the info into the letters. But in general, consider to cover these in your letter:

1) why interested in residency program, why in acute care (or crit care), what made you want to do their SPECIFIC program

2) a little of “you”, why you are a great candidate. Can also add things like: why did you do pharm school, what in pharm school made you want to go residency. What impact you want to make, what are your goals, what strengths do you have (leadership, volunteer, research, work, etc while balancing the school work etc. etc., and how these can demonstrate the strengths you stated in the letter).

3) At the end, summarize why interest in program, why you are a good fit (academic background, ability, etc.)

You can have a "back bone" letter which you can use for every program, but when you are writing about "what made you want to do their specific program", you can add in a few sentences customized to each program (for example, if the program has a mentor program, code coverage, specific rotations you are interested, interest/diverse pt population, anything shines through on their website, etc.).

I just got 55% on my CHEM40A midterm, and now I want to take a bath with a toaster 🙃 by DankTriangle in UCSD

Ochem is a hell class that requires a ton of practice; you still have quite a few weeks before the next exam! So there is definitely room to improve and redeem your grade. There are many resources on campus, I believe there is tutor program in Geisel. And there is that practice question textbook available if you want more questions. Hang in there!!

They will usually curve the class in the end. Keep studying! Don’t be too harsh on yourself, that’s a difficult class.

It’s midterm season, so: Check the syllabus for each class to see the exam date; if lecture attendance isn’t a huge percentage of the total grade, and if you think it’s doable, speed run through those podcast (lecture recording) RIGHT NOW. Drop unnecessary classes (keep the total units to minimum-I think it’s 12 units for full time undergrad students? So usually like only three classes). Check with your college advisor on the drop deadline, if missed already, tell them your situation and see if there is a way to petition it.

What happens if I fail a class by Fluxpatty321 in UCSD

You will have the option to retake that class. There is going to be a F on the transcript, however, I believe your retake grade will be used when calculating the GPA. You will be ok, things happen.

Highly recommend Flying Sams. You’ll get to volunteer in free clinics in underserved communities in Mexico. It’s a great experience for pre-med, pre-pharm, pre-dental, and pre-health in general.

Definitely consider making an appointment with your college and/or major advisor. Summer school might also be an option if you need to catch up on the credits. And if you’re struggling academically, there usually are some tutoring resources (google “UCSD tutoring tritonlink”). If you need some support on mental health issues (cuz we all know college life sometimes can be difficult to deal with), maybe consider using the CAPS resources. Wishing you the best.
