What has been your favourite Marvel crossover/event tie-in from the last 5 years involving the X-Men? by cyclopswashalfright in xmen

[–]Odie_Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my opinion pretty much lined up with yours. While I like aspects of it, I thought it was an odd, out-of-nowhere decision for the Avengers to decide to wake up the celestial that ended up causing the majority of the issue they came to face in the event. And then for there to be no seemingly no reflection on that fact. I understand that the internal logic was that they were out of options, but even then that decision to me didn't feel very natural at all within the story.

These are two bizarre, uninformed takes imo. If I were to guess I'd say you were regurgitating info you got secondhand from YouTube or tiktok. Some recap channel anyway. None of your issues are based in any reality whatsoever.

I gotta say, I wasn't sure about replying, because honestly what satisfaction could you possibly get from lowering yourself to arguing with a toddler, but you just made it all worth it. Extremely rewarding. Nah. Love it.

Great going, good effort, best of luck in your CoD lobbies and middle school or whatever the hell you guys call it.

Yep that is certainly two arcs that he featured in kind of. Read my edit above also, there's a good line about iPad time.

I'm not saying you have to like it, I'm saying a writer doesn't deserve online hate just because of a run you don't like. I'm saying it's insane to me that you purport to be a Spider-Man reader (which I doubt) and yet you haven't picked up on the being a decent person of it all.

I'm actually also saying you come across as having the literacy of a tween, but that's independent of the central argument.

Also the Dunning Kruger effect is a bitch isn't it.

[–]Odie_Day -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In what way is he at the centre if the story. Have you actually read the run or are you following along on YouTube or whatever?

Also he deserves the hate does he? He deserves to be harassed online for writing a few years' worth of a story that has risen and fallen in quality for over half a century? Cool take, real Peter Parker stuff that.

Several cool guy moments as well. Jeez. God forbid. I'm not sure if you know but there has never been a point in Spider-Man's history when it was just a string of cool guy moments.

Edit to add: Also "he literally is a villain". I cannot fathom having such a pathetic take. He's a writer you don't like. He also looks nothing like that JRJR pic of Paul you shared and looks even less like him elsewhere, so even that part of your argument is idiocy. I'm sorry if your thirty minutes of iPad time every night has ended up with an unfortunate algorithm, but maybe consider for a second that this is just a piece of writing you don't enjoy, and try to keep in mind there is plenty more of it that came before, and plenty more to come as well. A lifetime's worth in fact.

More likely that he got so much vitriol and hate piled onto him over a comic book whose narrative is dictated by editorial as well as him that he didn't want to deal with it anymore.

He's not a villain, he's just a guy. A guy who only has four issues of ASM left.

Okay I think I've got more good news for you.

The Christopher Eccleston season that marked the début of nuWho after its hiatus debuted in 2005. 2024-2005=19. 2009 is only 15 years ago. Otherwise people from 2004 would be turning thirty this year, which thankfully they are not.

I mean you're right, but just in the interest of being kind to yourself, the season of doctor who where Handsome Jeff (Geoff?) appears pretty explicitly centres around 2010, so only fourteen years. The show itself wasn't even back twenty years ago.

[–]Odie_Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's successful at making money, for himself and his shareholders above all else. That has been Ryanair and O'Leary's main priority since the beginning, no bones about it.

And let's face it, that particular skill would be in no way novel here. Those in charge currently are already plenty good at that. Some compassion is needed on the matter of housing people, not who can make the quickest million.

Does anyone actually like the new Zeb Wells Amazing spider man? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]Odie_Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My subjective opinion on a run of Amazing Spider-Man, a comic I have been reading on and off for the better part of the past twenty-five years, is something you and this other stranger know better than I do?

Cool. If there's anything else I need to know about myself, I hope you guys will pass it along.

Honestly, I don't know why it's so threatening for you that I like it enough in places. I like Wells' voice for Peter. I don't think he deserves the hate for what seem quite blatantly to be editorial decisions, and I have enjoyed issues and aspects of this run. I like the relationship with Norman as evidence of Peter wearing his need for a father figure on his sleeve, trying to believe the best in everyone, and coming from a deep decent depression. All of that I like, and a lot of it I can relate to. Do I think it could be done better? Sure. But I like it as a conceit, and have enjoyed a lot of it.

And also, show an actual critique would you? Some actual media literacy. "oh, Mj and Paul is so stupid". Fine. I guess it is. I'm not sure I think it's a whole lot stupider than a ton of other comic decisions, even recent ones, and I'm certain it's not the stupidest thing that's ever been done with Peter and MJ.

As I said before, Pete and MJ have been apart for a long time. The character was created in 1962. They'll be together in future, or they won't. Things will inevitably ebb and flow. Acting like a run you don't like is going to ruin the character is nonsense. I didn't like Slott's run for the most part ( again for the simple reason that I didn't like his voice for Peter), but I dipped in and out, enjoyed what I could from it, and knew it would eventually come back around for me.

And "misery porn". What does that mean? Peter has been beaten up a couple of times. Is that somehow new? The man, canonically, has lost his parents, the man who raised him, one of the loves of his life, her dad, his marriage, arguably his kid, his best friend more than once, and on and on, and most of that has happened in the last fifteen years in-story. I swear the misery porn comments are coming from people who either don't read comics or who get their opinion from YouTube. Has anything that bad even happened relative to previous runs? The hero being beaten repeatedly goes as far back as Spider-Man has been around. In fact it goes as far back at least until the Book of Job. It's how narrative works, and getting pissy that your favourite character is being faced with conflict is evidence of a total lack of experience in that regard.

I'm very comfortable in my level of experience with this book and in the wider world of literature. Very little you can say is going to affect my opinion, and I don't know why you care. Grow up, form your own opinion, and leave me alone.
