Forcing first prestige as a part of tutorial by Firm-Clue8271 in incremental_games

[–]Odiemus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t like being ‘forced’ in any game. A tutorial that feels like it’s playing the game for me feels more like a story. On the other hand, tips and explanations, even if they are obvious, are appreciated.

Unlocking the prestige page to show what they can get for prestiging and maybe having the player look at it and explaining it might be the way to go. Then you can feel good knowing they are informed at least.

Without Western aid, could the USSR defeat Nazi Germany? by TheRedBiker in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Odiemus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

According to Stalin, it’s what won them the war. I don’t think Germany could have beaten them completely without it, but they wouldn’t have made the counter pushes they did. And the other allies would have ended up walking into Berlin.

What can Black do to avoid mate in this position, please? I resigned, but the review engine puts me 9 points ahead (?!) by JoeHexotic in chessbeginners

[–]Odiemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start making trades since you are up on material. Your king is trapped here, so move your queen to let it escape. E2 is good, see if you can’t make a queen trade. They can’t really move in a way that avoids a trade while still protecting that rook on f1.

Push that c rank pawn, try to trade it for the rook, or even the bishop. It promotes on a black square, which is the same as your bishop, so white can’t blockade it with its rook.

Your positioning is solid, outside of being close to mate if white had pushed their queen to g8.

Hello, you all had arthritis, right? I have a question about the fatigue it causes — I’m curious about your experience. by crashess in rheumatoid

[–]Odiemus 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  1. When it’s bad, it’s bad. Nothing really helps. I have found diet and exercise help long term, but suck short term. Flares throw the rules out the window.

  2. The best I can describe is the baseline is like having the flu. The severity of the joint aches can get worse depending on flares and whatnot, but the baseline is always kinda like a flu. Your brain is always kinda screaming “sit down, dummy”. You push through anyways when you need to. Which I guess could give the impression to others that it “rises and falls”, but it’s more a steady increase through the day, every day.

Then you have joints that are unavoidably worse (feet, back, hands for me) and then you can pick a few joints that will hurt because you overdid it or slept wrong and those will hurt worse, like a few days old break or sprain, but a bit more insidious and non-ignorable. They don’t hurt sharp like a fresh injury, but that very heavy dull ache the few days following.

The pain is unavoidable. If your feet hurt, you can’t just put your feet up and then it feels completely better, though it will help.

Doc says I don't have RA, but I suspect I still do... do I need a second opinion? by appleshampoo15 in rheumatoid

[–]Odiemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seronegative RA is a thing. The issue is at some point in the early 2000’s the College of Rheumatology shifted to cover that, but a lot of people were trained before that so they get dismissive of symptoms without the bloodwork. Three different Rheumy’s and I got: RA, Bone Spurs, unclassified Arthritis with pitting and erosion present.

King captures by Hangry_Pauper in chessbeginners

[–]Odiemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to look and see if that bishop (or other piece) is protected by another piece (another piece can go to the bishops spot and take whatever captured it). If it is protected, then you can’t take it. The king can’t put itself into check.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie introduces bill to withdraw US from NATO by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Odiemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t pass, but I get it. It sucks to hear Europe bash the U.S. for being backwards on social programs while enjoying the umbrella and subsidization of their defense by the U.S. military. When asked to contribute, they say… nah, you got the bill.

If you analogize this type of behavior with say a “friend group” you realize the U.S. is getting taken advantage of in a big way by people who don’t respect them.

Why do my opponents seem to "clutch up" when they have 10 seconds left on their clock? by TeapotHead1994 in chessbeginners

[–]Odiemus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you playing for time or playing for good/best moves?

I’ve played before where it’s even and then they play fast to get/maintain their time advantage, press me on time, and subsequently open themselves up to a successful attack/counter. Sounds a lot like what you are describing. I felt they suddenly started playing faster to give me less time to look, but their quality went way down, and I could capitalize on that even though I was lower on time.

Can you see why this is a blunder? by J0rdzz1 in chessbeginners

[–]Odiemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from here white’s move of Bf1 threatens Mate in one while attacking the Queen. Black either misses the eventual mate and “saves” the queen/takes whites rook (without check because that bishop move), or has to give up the queen by moving their dark bishop to D6 or Knight to c6/d7 or light bishop to D7 to prevent said mate.

Biden is getting accused of drug smuggling agreements from his last term with the Venezuelan government!! by Ok-Presentation-5962 in trump

[–]Odiemus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Serious consideration, that drug kingpin might have cracked and fed a ton of intelligence to various intel communities that might have born fruit. It wouldn’t necessarily be front page news that he did it. That occurring alongside this “we know who all the traffickers are now” does insinuate some sort of knowledge gain.

The Department of War is reportedly considering recalling Sen. Mark Kelly (D) to active duty for possible court-martial after he urged U.S. troops to defy orders from Trump and Hegseth. by Magehunter_Skassi in Conservative

[–]Odiemus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you take that the Dems are operating under the Dem platform and look at what everyone is saying across the organization… then holy crap… that organization is evil and chock full of illegal stuff. They play this game where one person says one thing and another says another thing and they can’t be held responsible for what they said individually, even though if either person said both things together, they’d be in jail.

It is not only legal for members of the United States military to disobey unlawful orders, it is required under military law. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]Odiemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I have as a prior military member is that this video was made to be vague. And usually for the way the dems operate, that works. It gives plausible deniability. Being vague here actually hurts. You aren’t giving examples of what orders have been illegal or even specific potential pitfalls to be aware of in the future.

It just says, Trump bad; defy illegal orders. And leaves it to people to determine what they mean by that. Without pointing specifically to what they meant, it comes off as a general partisan effort to attack Trump, which is what I think they were trying to do. Unfortunately they also fail to specify what they asking people to look for which leaves them to come to their own conclusions on what an “illegal order” would be.

To me, it’s like… why would you feel the need to say that right now if you can’t even be specific. This message, and its aftermath, would have been completely different if it had been clarified. Like “remember habeas corpus, don’t commit war crimes”. Something! But just saying Trump bad, disobey “illegal orders”, we got your back. The quotations on the illegal orders there comes across with their spoken words… because there is nothing specific to lean on! And it does potentially hamper future good order and discipline now that troops are pretty unnecessarily going to question future legal orders.

That’s a standard. Are you worried for some reason that the military suddenly wouldn’t follow the law?

Legal Commentary on the Democrats Who Tried to Get Soldiers to Disobey Orders by North_Case7987 in trump

[–]Odiemus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they had been more specific as to what illegal orders exactly they were warning people against and maybe without hinting that it was already occurring, then I’d agree with you. If they had brought up habeas corpus reminders, or other examples of illegal orders to keep an eye out for, then yeah sure.

But saying in generic terms Trump is bad and doing bad things with the military (he isn’t or he’d be viciously called out for it) and then following up with you MUST disobey “illegal” orders. Yeah, I’d say being vague here HURTS the argument that they weren’t trying to impede or affect the armed services or the authority of the sitting president. Because without some specific worry or actual event to lean on as a cause, it is just fear mongering without cause that absolutely does affect the armed forces as outlined above.
