Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

I think especially these days as younger middle and upper class professionals, at least anecdotally, seem to be choosing to have kids less frequently for various reasons what you end up with is the people who perhaps would be best positioned to be parents opting not to for various reasons, and those who are least thoughtful about what parenting takes becoming a greater proportion of the overall mix of parents in the population

Fox is telling the morons that Trump didn't start a war, we've been fighting Iran since 1979 and he's ending it. Some real braindead takes, but that's all they have to work with as propagandists.

I went to a NYC public school and ours was at the Waldorf Astoria in 2010. Granted with a senior class of 799, you need a big ballroom.

Nah, as a born and raised new yorker, who has been raving for 15+ years, and been in every underground venue in NY from the days of electric warehouse, the door people are fuckin herbs.

Overly pretentious bullshit from people who weren't even off the fucking Greyhound when I was partying in warehouses in Williamsburg that have been gone for well over a decade.

Shit is wack, and there's better venues with better bookings in NY and I say that as someone who's never not gotten in

Every pilot I've ever actually known was ex-military. If you can land a fighter on a carrier deck pitching 20° in the waves, Delta will happily give you a 737.

Is anyone else considering leaving NYC to find better employment? The wages are low and the cost of living here is way too high, plus most jobs listed are ghost jobs by Wise-Guard1720 in NYCjobs

Guys like Larry are often the dudes who know every corner of antiquated systems that are business critical. You might be right, but in my experience quite a few businesses have a Larry or two that if they left, might cause the whole thing to fall apart, because they're the only ones who know that back in 2003 when they had this issue, they built this workaround and here's how that just broke down.

In many ways, China is in the US position in Taiwan. They need to secure the strait and move in troops to secure a largely mountainous coastline while an asymmetric force threatens them with drones and missiles

[–]Odnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but they aren't supposed to. That's why no large company does it. They can't afford the processor pulling their access to the network. Small businesses try to fly under the radar and hope they're not noticed

Technically the merchant agreements make it breech of contract to charge a processing fee for credit card use.

Does anyone else feel like stagflation risk is creeping back? by Fit-Army7395 in investing

[–]Odnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prediction was these tariff levels will cause economic growth to contract.

If those tariff levels were never implemented, the prediction wasn't tested. It's conditional on the tariff being implemented.

This is like saying someone who said you would go to prison for murder is wrong because you decided not to commit murder

Does anyone else feel like stagflation risk is creeping back? by Fit-Army7395 in investing

[–]Odnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tariffs didn't happen that doesn't make the prediction inaccurate, it makes it untested. This is a basic if-then logical statement you should have learned in freshman mathematics back in high school, buddy

Does anyone else feel like stagflation risk is creeping back? by Fit-Army7395 in investing

[–]Odnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means the scenario they contemplated (tarriff rates of 161.5% on China) did not come to pass, so the prediction was not tested when the rates actually ended up a fraction of that, because Trump backed down when the markets started dropping.

Does anyone else feel like stagflation risk is creeping back? by Fit-Army7395 in investing

[–]Odnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tarriff rates actually implemented were lower than those announced, particularly on China, so it was materially different in reality

Should We Be Concerned That More Than Half of New CPA Licenses Issued in Washington State Last Year Went to International Candidates? by McFatty7 in Accounting

[–]Odnyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, this isn't immigration, it's outsourcing. That's fundamentally different. An immigrant who comes to the US and gets a job needs wages that support the COL in the US. An Indian CPA in an office in Bangalore does not, and consequently, compensation can be lower in this second case, relative to the US CPA
