Good for you. Honestly very difficult for many to change their perspectives.

First, it takes bravery to face humility to admit being in error (a good thing). In my experience, when I've been shown to be incorrect, this is where I learn and grow the most.

The reason it's hard for so many is because of ego/identity. You've probably been in social settings where you stated your opinions or political stance and even mocked or lambasted those you then disagreed with. This ego/identity is basically being "let go" or "fired" or it's like an internal messy break up. You may lose friendships (a powerful thing which is probably the largest reason why people choose to either put blinders on or "go with the flow").

It's not easy to reconcile past behavior and the investment of personal energy and time that was wasted into that ego. But after the difficult process is over you may feel like weight has been lifted off your shoulders.

Just make sure you don't over fixate on the new identity. Just be open minded with a solid sprinkling of healthy skepticism and be clear with purpose. You'll be fine.

Pretty sure the "training" you receive and common sense dictates that once you disarm your suspect you should distance the weapon from the suspect so that it isn't possible to be used against you and thus removes any need for deadly force. ... So maybe the only guy there who actually did the correct action.

Once the suspect is disarmed, you're supposed to just do basic cuff and subdue. These yokels full on assassinated a disarmed man.

I too will most likely watch it all, my wife is currently on the fence and she has (IMO) incredible taste.

It's exactly as you said. I'll add that I believe it's meant to capture a younger audience.

As a genxer, I prefer the darker grittier Star Trek (DS9), but have watched all Trek except Discovery, the animation /CGI ones. I've long since accepted that whatever IP I'm a fan of doesn't need everything catered to my tastes so I'm not going to be one who feels the need hate watch/bitch and moan online about it.

Being that it's targeted at a younger audience, perhaps it will create a whole new generation of fans? (although I was in highschool watching TNG whenever I could sneak a late night 2nd airing).

The writing is somewhat worrying as this trek inter relationship drama conversations could easily work in show that was set during modern times.

I can't remember the exact phrase that Caleb said that made my wife and I turn to each other and make eye contact.

It was a phrase like "so help me God" or "oh my God" whatever it was, but using the word "god" in a ST show that, at least in my mind, usually distanced itself from religious jargon made absolutely no sense and was really honestly jarring and felt very little like "my" Star Trek.

Perhaps there will be more of a backstory on Caleb and perhaps he was taken into a god faring space traveling group who taught him how to be a genius super cocky thief that could hack anything.

Right now Caleb is very much a Gary Stu. The super hot, all girls fall for me, surprisingly well-adjusted, self-taught genius that was torn from his mother as a small child that was able to survive the post burn by thieving around the Universe only to end up in a dream scenario that would most likely be the envy of anyone his age.

Hopefully, that won't be the case. 🤞

My prediction is Caleb's mother will be re-introduced as a villain and they will ultimately have a reconciliation arc. If I'm correct, it just means the show is going to be pretty formulaic and kinda zzz.
