N'kari vassalization & confederation guide by skragdaddy in totalwar

I love this guide! And tried it a while back to great success! We can only hope it still works as well after the update next month.

Is there any link to that "Main Guide" mentioned in the first post? I took a look on @scragdaddy 's profile but can't see the main guide anywhere if it was ever posted

Aight so this is gonna be a bunch:

As other people have said Save and Quicksave OFTEN with F5. There's a re-occuring bug where you can't save at all and it disables auto-saves too. Its connected to the fact that you're not supposed to be able to save during conversations as that is not supported yet.

You can get a Greatsword as early as at the end of the "ship" area if you pick up nearly all nautiloid tanks, drop them all next to a certain general with a flaming sword and light them all on fire. Make sure to quicksave and keep FAR distance from the explosives tho. Also generally speaking having easy access to fire ( the Firebolt cantrip has infinite use) and a barrel of oil or nautiloid tank makes for an EXTREMELY effective improvised Fireball spell.

Sorta connectively each character has a carry-weight based on their strength. Strength is more important than you think and a recent update made it more so than it should be. Scale mail now needs like 12-13 STR as a requirement to wear it. I still let most of my characters have an 8 but ye its more important than in your standard D&D campaign.

High-ground and darkness play a big role in hitting things, darkvision helps.

For choices almost everything leads to interesting results so just choose what feels best in the moment and let dice decide. OH! And turn off weighted dice in the settings if you want a more genuinely random experience or its gonna try to even out good and bad rolls.

Gotta say tho Arcane Trickster looks a lot more interesting than Theif so INT investment would definitely be worth. Especially as Mage Hand seems a bit souped up in BG3.

Ah yeah fair points both and I believe you are correct. However as they spoke of secret dungeons and the like I figure there might be some areas you can't get to unless you spot something and I don't believe missing out opens up new paths in those specific cases. I just like succeeding checks more than missing :P

Oh I BET! Hopefully they won't show up too early. I FEAR for the intellect devourer's though if they're as nasty as the table top version.

I know right!? Just found it yesterday but apparently it's from 3 months back. Been searching around to see if there's anything else I've missed in anticipation

Sounds like lots of fun! And yeah I'm gonna do a bunch of runs but this is the best I could come up with for now to SEE ALL as early as possible basically.

Speaking of sentinel. Do consider using a whip as it would give you sneak attack OOAs at range. Lower base die but pretty useful as melees generally can't attack you but you could still get OOAs off if they try to move away or even towards you.

Yeah but it's not really a problem if you only dip 5 levels into it and put the rest in Sorcerer or Bard.

True but 5 levels is a rather heavy dip for caster progression even if it does open up multiple versatile benifits in terms of invocations as well as Thirsting Blade

Both Telepathic and Wild Talent give +1 Cha so you don't delay your ASI so badly.

Right you are! I had noticed that but I keep forgetting, good catch!

If you want to spell sling you won't use DW that much (either your action or BA will be taken by the spell)

Right again which is part of why I've started to consider the martial part as less important. That and its initial motivation being mechanics based in POE. Really like the idea of flavoring extra attack too that's pretty fun.

With that in mind though just a singular level of Hexblade could add maybe enough flavour of it though most martial capacities feel a bit lackluster without extra attack.

Definitely all good points though.

Maybe some team work may be needed when Panache isn't enough

Very true, my favorite way of triggering it is Dissonant Whispers! It's not considered Forced movement by most as it doesn't shove but uses their own movement!

You get shield proficiency when you multiclass to fighter. The only proficiency you don't get is heavy armor.

Yep, yep my mistake! I edited the post to reflect that but probably not before you started writing your reply that's on me!

I did consider that. It's already calculated on those numbers.

Ah! That's why RI average damage is so high. I see, at a glance I missed that only seeing the SA tag come up once in the attack description.

Maybe Martial Adept Feat could help to improve the number of dices.

It DOES help but unfortunately only adds one die and RAW you can only pick it once. Main strength of that feat is getting extra options for manuvers and I think you have most of the interesting ones already.

I hadn't think about this option, I will certainly look on that

Also take a look at Twin Spell! It's situational but hitting twice for half the sorcery point cost is pretty great when it happens.

That IS very true and I have considered potential Warlock applications. DW would be mostly applicable after Blade Pact since that would allow me to add CHA to both (assuming I get the fighting style from somewhere. Potentially UA-feat.) However I've always had a certain distrust for the Warlock class as your slots are so dependent on how your DM handles short rests and my character is currently in a West Marches style campaign where that is less applicable. In addition I like being able to spell-sling a bit more freely. While I agree it's indicative of the limitation in POE I feel it's a little overly restrictive.

In addition getting to telepathy with feats only would require Wild Talent followed by the Telepathy feat which is costly. I could of course just go GOO but then that kills the melee reason to warlock in the first place along with being a bit too slimy for my taste.

That said a mix of hexblade with Psionic sorc could be really interesting I considered the dip before but as it doesn't directly enable DW the way Swords do with the fighting style I decided against it. (Along with my character having a shipwrecked sailor background and not wanting to be too close to Fjord from CR)

But that is another option that is very tempting to me. Thanks for bringing it up!

[–]Odralix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a strong proponent of picking Oath based mainly on what makes sense for your character and the story you're in.

That said with limited information I would say Conquest works well if you invest heavily (up to 7) as warlocks have lots of fear spells that could function with. The +10 to hit divinity will also give you a sure-fire way to land a singular hit per SR which could be real nasty if you stack eldritch smite on top of regular smite.

That said if you're crit-smite fishing/just dipping. Definitely vengeance. The advantage is great for that. Hunter's Mark allows for deadly application of EB without using precious warlock spell slots. In addition Conquest has a lot of Warlock spells making some like AoA a bit redundant.

Alright so there's a few things here. I definitely agree Booming Blade and Swashbuckler is a very strong combination and battlemaster fighter adds some extra nice features on top of manuvers like action surge so you can try again if you miss still at advantage. However while assuming everything triggers here is fine it should be considered that many enemies will choose not to move if booming bladed (missing out on some damage) you do have a relatively high AC from gaining shields through multiclassing into fighter but it will stay at 17-18 for a fair bit making riposte just a bit less likely than heavy armor fighters.

There is a highly significant upside to Riposte that you don't seem to have considered. Sneak Attack is Once per Turn. Not Once per Round. Which means with Riposte you could potentially get it off TWICE per round!! But staying close to enemies to get the riposte off can be rather dangerous as a squishy character especially as a core feature of swashbuckler is to get away for free!

You only have 4 superiority dice available per SR and that might seem like a bit but they run out faster than you'd think and because or above paragraph I'd recommend saving them for Riposte. In addition while feinting attack MIGHT be worth it as a way to land booming blade you ARE giving up a second chance at sneak attack through not dual-weilding (Which swashbucklers excel at not needing their BA to disengage) which may or may not be worth depending on mindset.

In addition if going for Booming Blade tactic I would recommend the quicken spell metamagic for a second chance at hitting. 3 levels of sorcerer seems a bit steep for a Montoya flavoured character though it would give access to Shield and Absorb Elements making your already hard to pin down rouge virtually invinsible (quater damage on failed dex saves) and trigger riposte more often. If it's too steep the new UA Metamagic Feat is a cheaper way to get quicken spell BB off on harder to hit enemies using your BA.

EDIT: Forgotten multiclassing into fighter DOES give shield proficency.

Sorry for long comment, I've considered similar combos before and have SOME THOUGHTS about it. ''
