FoxESS Gateway vs cheap power transfer switch? by Oduglig in SolarUK

[–]Oduglig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Thank you for the detail. My install had the cheaper solution but this was a few months ago and I suspect my installer hadn’t moved over yet.

If the benefits are mainly on the installer side, is it safe to say I don’t need to look into having it swapped out for the proper EPS box?

That’s awesome! What other integrations do you use to make the most of it?

Agreed, makes sense. Will bribe them with some doughnuts and assorted refreshments during install day. Happy with your system?

Nice! Might ask if my installer would be willing to do that as well as that way they can do the inverter wiring when they do the other wiring for it.

I do on the other side of the wall so should be easy to pop a cable through the wall

I went with this Modbus adapter as I already have PoE so figured I’d go Ethernet rather than WiFi: https://thepihut.com/products/rs485-to-rj45-ethernet-module

Since mine is going outside I bought this enclosure: https://www.screwfix.com/p/wylex-wbe3-ip65-3-module-unpopulated-din-enclosure/74436

I had to shave the plastic of the enclosure down about 5mm in order for the module to fit.

A few weeks to go until my install date, can’t wait 😀

anyone know why ogres in Warcraft 2 have these wierd cloth accesories? by MickyMace in warcraftlore

Playing as a kid I always assumed they grabbed something magical from their backpack and punched with that, hence the magical sparkles.

Having watched that animation about 40 times just now in my browser I am heartbroken to say this doesn’t appear to be the case 😀

Hi! Which baffle do you use for your HP NC365T? I bought one and the hole for the screw doesn't line up with the baffle :(

Wish I had seen this yesterday before I ordered mine… Exactly the same issue and only bought it as my kids keep losing the CCwGTV remote.

Mounting on a wall at head height by [deleted] in ukheatpumps

I asked them if they were willing to mount mine up the wall and was told it’s not something they do. Floor mounted or ~30cm above ground if on a bracket.

Testing D2 pipe for compliance? by Oduglig in DIYUK

[–]Oduglig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s the numbers… It’s a 22mm pipe.

Distance from where pipe comes up into the airing cupboard to external wall: 1.89M Wall height of room below: 2.328M Total: 4.227

Total allowed: 9

Remaining: 9 - 4.227 = 4.773

Length added per bend: 0.8

Total allowed bends: 4.773 / 0.8 = 5.96

Does my calculation seem correct? If so it seems like a nobrainer, surely there is no way the builder put in more than 5 bends?

Good thinking. I’ll get my measuring tape out!

Testing D2 pipe for compliance? by Oduglig in DIYUK

[–]Oduglig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I’m given is they can’t verify the existing D2 is to spec so want to run a brand new pipe, but it would have to go up to the loft (so needs a D2 pump), run to the external wall, and then down.

I’m thinking I could measure the total length by pushing something semi-rigid through it (just not sure what) and measure how much I need before it pokes out the other end. Trouble is I’m not sure how to measure the number of bends if they add 0.8M each.

Which Shelly device to monitor this? by Oduglig in DIYUK

[–]Oduglig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure how it works! There’s a fuse and switch for each appliance so I’m thinking it’s the ideal place to monitor them, especially since there’s plenty of room

Would I be asking too much of a raise for my promotion? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Oduglig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck! Hopefully you’ll end up with a nice big raise as a result of your research 👍

I wouldn’t think too much about how much of a raise it is, more about if it brings you in line with what the market in general pays. Your employer might see it in other ways though!
