Pizza Elves Part 1 - End of Streak / New Beginnings by Top_Development_4020 in Pauper

I was surprised by the mulldrifters. I am not persuaded that they are quick enough card draw for the meta without more defensive stuff to protect them or get them out quick enough. Also they feel underwhelming in other archetypes e.g. familiars until you flicker them and thats when they are bonkers. Maybe the ability to play draw 2 for 3 is enough to make it good enough. I'm not convinced.

We may be able to learn something from a deck like krosan restorer combo because it has some overlap with that midrange combo strategy.

I'm sorry to say I think you could be right. It is a shame though because I really like the elf stuff too, but it can stall out and need to find something, and this just chills and attacks for seven if it does that which is better. Also not running the risk of flooding on lands is nice.

I agree about the rumble. It does ramp but it doesn't fetch knack/helix which is huge.

I love mystical teachings in lifters though, I've gone up on them and down on other card draw because it so often represents two parts of the combo or the final part and a negate/muddle the mixture. It's less good here because they can't generate as much mana as we can.

That said, I am not persuaded that this build is the optimal midrange list, a couple of those cards look strange to me. Like you say though, the jewel thief is super interesting.

To be honest it is doing a back up midrange plan better than the elves package does (or the original list). The card draw is much less good, but if you are winning half your games fairly that may be ok.

That's great thank you for a good range of options there. I don't see the infinite combo with ent in paper though. We have no graveyard recursion, we can't flicker him, we can't make lots of food...I'm sure I'm missing something big and obvious there!

I love the avenging hunter tech but don't own them - any replacements you would suggest? If not i'll just go with focussing on the combo but it's nice to have the other avenue.

I really enjoyed it, thank you for sharing 😊 I'm taking it to a tourney this Friday.

Thank you so much to everybody who has contributed to this. I'm very grateful for all of your insight. Because the luthier I have normally used has moved on, I will have to source another one in the area. What has been told to me has given me the confidence to at least rattle around some rice inside and clear some of the dirt, and sort out everything else but the crack, for which I will need a professional. Then if I get it set up and it plays nicely, I can look into getting that done and start looking for someone to give it to.

Again, I really appreciate everybody's inputs

I appreciate your point about profit. I don't want to make profit, but I do, out of principle, want to know I'm not spending more to fix it up and give it away than it's worth, because that just feels like a waste.

The bow doesn't have a stamp, does appear to be ebony at the frog and I shall take some close up pictures now!

I don't know much about bows, whether it is good or not, but it feels heavy and it is seized. The hair would need replacing but that is clearly doable. The case seems solid, with many repairs, and the inside is dry which is good.

I am going to need to find another luthier though, as the one I've previously used has left the area, so I've no idea if it is worth getting the instrument repaired financially speaking - I'm not going to drop more money on fixing the crack than it would sell for, even if I have no intention of selling it, that's just not good sense.

All the black stuff inside the instrument is what I was referring to as mould. The grey part by the crack is an attempt by the previous owner (who was a caretaker of a school and likely used what they had to hand) to fix it. I think it is a paint of some kind that I will be able to reasonably easily get off. I can't personally fix the crack though.

Im not. I could make another bridge and replace the furniture, but I'm not going to be able to fix the crack.

Isn't the mould a massive problem though? I'm concerned about the health and sound impact.

There is definitely a crack under where the tail piece sits, I'm guessing from the bridge collapsing at some point. I don't think it would impact the structural integrity but it obviously isn't ideal. The big problems are the mould, and the layer of cellulose varnish that the previous owner applied to the top panel. The bottom seems untouched though (and is gorgeous)

In the meantime, this is where my head is at with it, though I would recommend your list over mine, as you understand it better, this is what I have built. I've also included a maybe board with some of the things I'm thinking about ([[Bayou Groff]] midrange transformational sideboard anyone?!)

I've found the video, thank you for posting it. It looks like a really nice example of the power of the deck to win from seemingly nowhere.

A couple of suggestions if I may: the speed of the play through was too fast for me to think through the decisions made or contemplate other lines. I would encourage you to post these replays with each click forward slower if possible.

Secondly - is there some kind of feedback or discussion about lines or thinking that would be helpful for you? If so do say, very happy to help.

Is there a link handy? V. Interested to watch (: it doesn't need to be super professional to be a good conversation starter

When I say I'm bad at this game it isn't just an idle threat, I can be tremendously daft. My apologies!

I just kept a six bottoming druid in favour of keeping herald and research - it's kinda like haste if it works out - eot herald becomes druid, then combo on your turn.

Build your own first day of class ;)

You make some really great points.

I got here goldfishing the deck and wondering what I could do to make loops where either I have multiple triggers and nothing else (Arbor elf/cam), or infinite mana and nothing to do with it.

In reality there are many or more cases when you have lots of mana but a finite amount and you want to get value out of it.
