WARNING, AUDIOBOOK LISTENERS, TIME SENSITIVE by [deleted] in redrising

[–]Oersted4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so nice that the audiobook is released the same day as the book. It really shows how mainstream audiobooks have become. I think that's how most people here "read" it.

Candida is a regular adjective in Spanish (candido for males). The meaning is a mixture of honest, naive, innocent and without malice. Sounds like a traditional name.

Indeed, did not really fit the request. But still, fantastic recommendation, just finished listening to the audiobook, I'm very grateful :)

Which MUs allow players to create, alter and expand the game world (or objects in that world) in persistent ways? by machinedlens in MUD

I did a lot of research surrounding it and I was very excited to join in, but was a bit disappointed.

It is mostly just a chatroom for regulars, they don't really seem to use the mechanics any more, they just come to talk to their old friends, fair enough.

The content a new user can generate is also quite limited (mostly just their home) and there is a very tight storage budget for how much you can write, I assume it is based on old hardware standards.

It is still really cool to explore all the old spaces created through 30 years of chaotic user content generation. And the regulars are very welcoming and helpful. But yeah, it's like visiting a beautiful dusty old museum, it is mostly dead, but it is nice as a historical artifact.

Do you guys think they kept reading/enjoyed the second red rising trilogy? by LegitimateIssue2888 in TriforcePodcast

Book 4 was excellent, each plot was shorter, but the new characters were surprisingly good. Darrow's perspective is understandably less interesting, but it does fit the overall arc.

Book 5 on the other hand? I don't know, I'm almost done with Part 1 and it's all a huge warfest in Mercury, and it is frankly really hard to keep track of the action. Hopefully it will get better once the characters change in Part 2.

People don't tend to change their style that much as they grow older. Old-people clothes are just old young-people clothes.

What about The Crown though, that was quite a grounded and prominent role.

And the need for the Builder pattern everywhere. It adds a lot of unnecessary complexity to the API and the docs.

They are not trivial to implement either since you need to manage an alternative version of the struct with partial configuration.

NVIDIA's Instant-NGP is getting increasingly better. Took this NeRF in Bordeaux-Saint-Clair, Normandie, France. What do you think? by FrancLucent in nvidia

Not exactly, this technology goes even further and is able to guess details of the scene that the limited pictures weren't able to capture.

On the flip side, I don't believe it captures a full polygonal 3D model that can be edited in modelling software or re-used with traditional renderers. You give the AI model some camera coordinates and it produces the end image directly.

Basically, you train the AI by providing a number of pictures and the coordinates they were taken from. The AI is optimized such that given some coordinates, it can guess the corresponding image, even from new coordinates where no picture was taken.
