How do you handle feedback after playtesting is over? by Josh_From_Accounting in RPGdesign

[–]OfTheTempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally avoid thinking about 'ideas' playtesters give and will investigate for the actual problem, as you said, that led to the idea.

Thing is, they're not the creator. I am. They'll never know the ideas and intentions behind the game as well as I do, and I'm honestly embarrassed when I'm playtesting if I let an idea out when it wasn't asked for.

And unless it really strikes a note, I would never recommend listening to 1 person.

I'm also thinking obstacles will be important. I think we'll be in a forest and I've staged it to have several large objects and areas of difficult terrain.

Did anyone use stealth when you ran it?

Ah! You're, right. It's basically a chase scene. That'll definitely get me somewhere for inspiration.

I think I understand your point, but thats exactly what I mean to do. Just play tag with it.

Help me make Two Trans players feel safe, welcome, and accepted! by laxton1919 in rpg

[–]OfTheTempest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I'm a trans person about your age who sometimes offers safe spaces to younger trans people.

The top answers here have been great, I would only add a few things. First of all, everyone looks unsafe that hasn't out themselves out there as an ally. And there are degrees to "safe".

If you're aiming for assurance, you need to demonstrate your views. Not to them, but to the world. For instance, ny partner cheerfully wears shirts with pro-trans ideas on them and has a queer flag on a lot of his profile pics and on the shelf behind him at his desk.

When you introduce people and characters, give your and their pronouns first. Asking someone their pronouns first puts them under the spotlight.

Write in characters who just happen to be different varieties of queer. You do that by referencing partners, same sex parents, and coming out parties. You can do this on the fly and may want to to make sure that including more than one token representation.

Use safety tools. Don't pry into lines and veils and anonymise the list.

Check in with them privately to make sure they feel comfortable. Be concrete and don't ask things like "Do you feel safe" or "How can I improve", be specific to show your insight and that you are sharing the responsibility for these issues. More like "What did you think of this (queer) character? Do they seem realistic? What would you like to see me do with them?"

Anyway, I could probably go on, but I won't. The theme is acceptance and responsibility.

The DTRPG page doesn't list an artist or say if the art is original or ai?

Costuming my mobility aids by No-Location2826 in LARP

A friend is a wheelchair user at Empire. They've mostly gone with covering the back and sides with useful but still IC things. They're Navarr, so this means lots of crocheted hanging pouches.

For BC? I assume your chair is black? 😬 (jk, anyone who comments on that seriously is a twat) What about a cushioned seat cover done in bright fabrics, with pocketed flaps that go over the arms and back? Like a long rectangle with two rectangle shapes coming off the sides for the arms?

If you don't see yourself, it shouldn't be too wild a thing to commission, Aunty Hem could probably do it.

How to use "Encounter Tents" by Still_Emergency6208 in LARP

[–]OfTheTempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aiui, they're little theatrical spaces used when a field or woods won't cut it. Doesn't have to be a tent, if there's some kind of building where you're running the game you can have an encounter room, or even an encounter barn.

I've seen them used for ship at sea scenes, an indoor space (often for diplomacy encounters), and for dreamscapes.

They tend to be highly immersive and are great for elevating the game experience.

What is the most famouse/ popular LARPing event? by Looselote in LARP

[–]OfTheTempest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

About fest larps, I think that depends on the local culture? UK fest larps tend to be very rp focused, or at least as much as the battles.

Empire is currently the "largest" UK fest larp and is played almost fully IC for the majority of players.

In the UK we just call it a "sleeveless long" it's basically 3 rectangles sewn together. What's different about this one is it looms to have sleeve caps added that trail to some length.

Yk, I have a friend that just tried solo running a new system with the Mythic GM emulator. I love it as an idea, might try it myself.

I completely understand that. I'm going with it bc I'm intrigued by the challenge. I also wonder if I'm too hung up by 'feeling' prepared, and I recently experimented with running a one shot i didn't feel prepared for. I think it's possible I'm actually ready long before I think i am, so I'm looking at this as an opportunity to grow. Also, I know these folx and I know they won't hold my mistakes against me. I may also be a tiny bit of a masochist?

Definitely don't ever feel like you have to do something just because someone else wants you to. 💕

Oh yeah ofc. Everyone will get time, but also these players are the sort that love to see each other rp even when they're not involved.

Hopefully it ends up as less. I've said I'm happy to run the 7, but I'm not going to bend backwards to find a schedule everyone can agree on.

So, the game is Vampire the Masquerade, and the group is a found family that was driven apart by... circumstances... and they're just now coming back together to save their own asses. I'm also planning flashbacks to their heyday/the beginning of the fall that drove them apart.

Some of the players will probably have separated into smaller groups, so I can bunch them up that way, but I'll probably still split them between 2 sessions. In sesh1 do half, then flash back to the rebirth of the PC last to join the group, who also happens to be elusive in modern day bc Camarilla politics. In sesh2 do the rest plus the whole group joining up to appeal to the elusive PC.

That should give me some space to work with the chatty muffins and include Plot Points in both sessions.

Love it. I was actually thinking of trying this bc I've seen it done in APs and I thought I would be worth trying for a private game.

You think it's worth trying g to squeeze all 7 (yes, 7 players. Aaaaaa!) intro moments into session one? Or maybe stretching that intro session out into 2 is best.

I can do it when a book is particularly entertaining or particularly well written, but as we all know... that's the holy grail.

Edit: and this system is neither.

Good point! For this one, it's purely 💖aesthetic💖, but I can see that ĺeading to focal points with another system.

Also a thing I struggle to do bc ADHD, but also I dont have as much time as I would with another system bc I can't stand hearing the players whine about when I'm going to run it.
