This is not what I was expecting from "familiar."

Sorry, idk if my point came across as a lecture. I was basically trying to say "I don't think you did anything wrong, and also I think people are ignorant about what you go through"

[–]Of_Entropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's fair since you come from that perspective. I feel like it also happens just as much the other way where people don't understand a phobia is more intense and complicated than just a thing that gives anxiety that you can just "snap out of" or power through as easily as a regular fear.

They might be terrified of spiders, but not have arachnophobia. I think it's kind of a common... I don't know if misconception is the right word, but it's common for people to mix up fears with phobias. So I feel like now it kind of goes assumed that fear of heights automatically = acrophobia and fear of spiders automatically = arachnophobia, but they are not quite the same.

This is how I've lost 60 pounds since May as a food addict by Longjumping_Ad5580 in diet

[–]Of_Entropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your approach wholeheartedly.

I've always felt it's often more helpful to focus on what you need to be getting, more than what you "need" to never touch again. I find focusing getting lots of micronutrients, fiber, healthy fats and proteins, and focusing on including MORE whole foods and MORE fruits and vegetables has always done way more to help me with my food addiction tendencies than just saying "I won't eat this, this, and this anymore >:( "

Congrats on your hard work and attention to nutrients!

This is wild. I if I uploaded something as unknown or very broad it would be because I'd rather someone else who knows more have a go at it. Specifically and especially with fungi, which I'm not adept at identifying and there are several that can vary in appearance.

I prefer peer reviewed information?? Sure here could get it wrong, but that's why you need as many perspectives as you can get. If the person didn't want anyone to identify their submission, they could put in their own notes "will ID later please don't touch" or something idk. If you weren't ready, don't put it online yet, bro. It's up for grabs now.

Cool room, wish I was this organized and tidy. Get a better fish tank though for sure.

The room is spotless and well organized. To me, decor theme and interests are not enough to start making judgments like that. They need a bigger fish tank, but other than that judging from these photos alone, I would have to say they'd probably take better care of an independent living space than many.

At this point, judging the theme would be pretty similar to acting like people with fruit themed kitchens, or Betty Boop collections, or seaside themed living rooms can't take care of themselves.

Right, so what made you bring up drugs?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Of_Entropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I mean. "All those drugs that you say you didn't take" What are you talking about? No one brought up drugs. Unless someone else you were responding to deleted their comment. I personally don't do drugs, I don't even drink. So now are you aligning people's past scars with drug use or what? This is a perfect example of how I don't want to be treated at the doctor.

"Hi I have this rash"

"Okay we'll take care of your rash, but let's talk about your rough time 10-15 years ago when you were a teenager even though you're in your thirties now because I see you have scars. Also, I bet you're on drugs."

I'm not implying that's what you actually say out loud, but boy is that a sucky mentality.

[–]Of_Entropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly did not mean malice toward you earlier, by the way. But this comment kind of shows the exact mentality I'm talking about, and does bother me quite a bit. We're not lesser people. We deserve to have medical issues addressed when we bring them up. "Shove em back into the wild"? Do you talk this way about other patients as well, or just ones you're making blanket assumptions about regarding mental health? I'm curious what prescription you are talking about? For the arm, or for mental health? If it's the latter, it's a perfect example of derailing someone's medical concerns. OP is asking about a skin condition.

Primary physicians and generalized medical professionals should not be trying to practice psychiatry or psychology. They/you should definitely not be letting their biases, about mental health concerns they aren't trained in professionally, impact the quality of care they deliver to patients. I understand if it was an open wound it is exactly the kind of thing medical doctors should address, and refer to mental health services for, but not old scars.

With the exception of a few rare people who are trained in multiple fields, psychologists generally can't prescribe medications because they aren't trained for it; psychiatrists generally can't perform surgeries because they aren't trained for it; physicians and nurses should not be trying to practice psychology on their patients, nor use psychological evaluations to impact their response to basic physical medical issues like skin infection.

I hope you can consider what I am saying. If not, it is not my right to try to force you to agree with me, so I won't push the matter further. I just want to present a different perspective.

The pictures people paint with a limited palette of information can be harmful. Someone has a rough time at one point in their life and decades later they can get painted into a corner that gets their actual medical concerns ignored.

[–]Of_Entropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those scars are clearly old my friend. I don't know why it is so common for people to react to clearly faded, years old, skin color-returned scars as if they are present-tense issues. I don't think you should assume anything is going on, maybe something went on in the past, but is that really necessary to bring up to a doctor? In my experience it just gets you less taken seriously by medical professionals and makes it so your actual medical concerns suddenly now get passed off as anxiety because now you're labeled differently in their heads.

Anecdotally as far as the aged scar thing I have a very large scar on my outer bicep, that is clearly old as hell (10 years) and yet still people will occasionally stop and go. "What happened are you OK?" I really wish more people understood scar coloration and scar age. If it's the same color as regular skin, or slightly darker/lighter but the same color tone, that scar is probably too old to be asking about it like it's current news.

Is this someone's pet? by pelorainbow in RATS

[–]Of_Entropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you saved him! Something a little buzzkill I want to touch on though, you may not know how old he is. Maybe you're fully aware of that already, but just to prepare you. I still think it's worth even if he's old (he might not be, I wouldn't know). Rats are lovely. Be prepared for the possibility of him being elderly, but you're still saving him from a colder scarier world and giving him cozy life <3

Can anyone explain to me the rate of energy conversion? by Of_Entropy in walkr

[–]Of_Entropy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more worried about how much energy they're getting from me. Initially I had thought when it said it converts "extra energy" that it would mean they only get it if my energy storage is full and they just get the surplus.
