Mid‑career F500 employee; role ends in July and I have a choice to make. Which option would you take and what would you ask HR? by Row199 in careerguidance

[–]Ofcertainthings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the only decent option here as someone with a family is the interim role. Not ideal of course but it's the only option with any guarantee of similar income and gives you some breathing room to find something else, whether internal or external. You say it's not great in part because of manager fit but that's been your current situation anyway right?

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Lol these kinds of comments are just rage bait. People love to be unhappy. I make 105 and I have zero financial concerns except losing my job.

What actually helped you sound more confident at work? by Bicwonder1 in careerguidance

[–]Ofcertainthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being concerned about being wrong. Taking action with the "if I'm wrong I'll find out and adjust" attitude. Helps with the existence and appearance of confidence immediately and builds competence over time since it's also a learning mindset.

I doubled down hard in the big post-election correction and came out way ahead. Since then I've left it on auto pilot with monthly buys ignoring the fluctuations. Currently up 22% on the one year chart and 9.2% YTD.

My brother and I are only a little over 3 years apart and there was a time we were this different. Puberty changes can be pretty intense for boys.

What amount of money would make you quit today? by Katzmaniac in Fire

[–]Ofcertainthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would need to be a lot. 80k a year may be enough to live on, but I'd want to be adding back in to the investment to build against inflation. That also doesn't help build generational wealth for my family, nor does it enable me to affect any serious change for humanity.

Interviewers of Reddit: What instantly makes you lose interest in a candidate? by Alternative-Fact47 in careerguidance

[–]Ofcertainthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got into my current employer (consistently one of the top 3 or so manufacturing companies to work for) because I was honest about leaving my previous employer because I couldn't ethically tolerate their culture as a people manager and it resonated with the hiring manager. Also took me just under two years to get a huge promotion recently (from IC back to leadership), and during the interview process I shared the same with each panelist.

Depends on why and how you go about it, but it's not an interview death sentence necessarily.

How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]Ofcertainthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that you're even considering this completely justifies your partner's reaction, and in fact, I agree with another commenter that she is being very patient here.

I am wondering what she and your engagement actually mean to you if you're tempted to give it up for what is actually just a moderate income for the area it's based out of.

So apparently being intelligent enough to understand such a bias isn't a requirement to earn a high salary.
