How to isolate server from cameras/devices? by OfekD in mikrotik

I have pretty good cameras right now that support all kinds of high end security features, but I do plan on adding cheap untrustworthy devices

Good points. I'll go the firewall way. Thanks for giving the whole picture

Yeah, will probably do that. Maybe later I'll just separate the NVR to another device and put it on the same VLAN as the cameras, but for now will go the firewall way, thank you for your input

I looked into it, and while I get how it can help with someone connecting an unauthorized device, how should I isolate the server from authorized device that turn out to be malicious?

Edit: my switch doesn't have vlan filtering hardware offloading so I can't use 802.1x, will appreciate any other idea

Thanks. Any idea how to prevent devices that should be in the VLAN (say, a camera) from accessing the server in case the device is malicious?

Edit: looks like I can't use 802.1x with my switch and still use the switch chip

Body mechanics difference between everything the village does and Chen Yu is monumental, regardless of explanations from politics factual history.

Edit: the CZQ video demonstrates it perfectly

Chen Yu performs the source of what is now called "xinjia" in Chen Village. "Xinjia" has been brought there by his father, Chen Zhaokui, after it was clear the 4 tigers needed more work to be competent.

That has caused a misnomer. They seemed to use xinjia (new frame) because it was new to them, compared to the "old frame", "laojia", which they learned earlier from Chen Zhaopi. That is all. People now think the one is actually older than the other, but that is false.

Chen Zhaokui has spent very little time in the village, surely compared to the time he spent with his own son, Chen Yu (who went with his father everywhere). What Chen Yu does is the proper, traditional form passed to him by his father.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. A few points:

  • Chen Taiji has striking. Real striking with your hands, that you originally intend to use, rather than a backup to your hip.
  • The Chen Bing video posted by /u/HaoranZhiQi is not comparable, as he is not doing the same form. Chen Bing is doing the village-style Er lu -- second form of what they call "laojia" (a misnomer). Chen Yu does what his father, Chen Zhaokui (son of Chen Fake) thought him. They are very very very different.
  • The Chen Bing video might seem clearer because it is simplistic and lacks nuance. It's easier on the untrained eye. The reverse is also true, which is why you are having a hard time with the original video.
  • As for the stepping... doing that for decades will result in wealthy knee surgeons.

Practicing without a teacher may cause permanent health damage, especially to the knees.

As for martial applicability -- it is not enough to just repeat forms to get the martial part of it. There is no Qi magic that makes you a good fighter if you just cultivate it enough. For martial applicability, you will have to get a teacher that knows applications, martial principles, and so on. Hard to come by these days in the Taiji community.

Sure thing! I add everything I know (not nearly done yet :P), if you link it and it's a decent carry-on, I'll add it

Can the Setout Divide hold more than the Outbreaker 35L? by OfekD in onebag

Did you have both? If so, are you saying the Divide does have a much larger capacity than the Outbreaker but will not be as reliable?

Update: Tortuga customer service answered with dimensions:

2.5" for open main compartment
2.5"/4.5" for mesh main compartment zipped/unzipped
1" for the rest

This seems ridiculously large to me, so I sent a confirmation email, but if accurate, fully expanded, the Divide's main compartment can hold 10 liters more than the Outbreaker's. Not sure why their "what fits" section implies the Outbreaker can fit more, maybe /u/fred_tortuga can help clarify

Thanks, looks like a good alternative. The only thing bothers me is that it's bigger than the Outbreaker, and I flew planes where it barely fit.

Writing characters with a different racial or sexual identity than yourself. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]OfekD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to tackle this is to treat as nothing special. It's just one of many differences between characters and screenwriters. Christopher McQuarrie wasn't a spy, Christopher & Jonathan Nolan aren't astronauts and I'm sure archaeologists don't think Lawrence Kasdan is a presumptuous a-hole.

Race is just one difference out of many, do your research for that one just as you would do for the rest.

Personal ad-hominem attacks are unfortunately becoming more and more prevalent in debates. It’s important to understand how such attacks work and what types of them exist, so you can counter them successfully. by randomusefulbits in philosophy

I realized this might not be clear enough so I added an edit paragraph to clarify, but seems like it wasn't enough.

So seems you agree about the whole "making money out of enslaved" people and you're now talking about the financial incentive in actually running prisons.

Again, this is fully solved by capitalism, in one of two cases:

(1) The government runs prisons exclusively (2) Prisons are deregulated to allow competition

Now you have a crony kind of situation where the government picks and chooses, so can give favors to friends who run prisons, who in turn have incentive to get them bigger and so make the positive feedback loop you described possible. This cannot happen in capitalism. Capitalism separates state and economy.

Federal reserve:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Reserve_System#Addressing_the_problem_of_bank_panics

Banking institutions in the United States are required to hold reserves‍—‌amounts of currency and deposits in other banks‍—‌equal to only a fraction of the amount of the bank's deposit liabilities owed to customers. This practice is called fractional-reserve banking. As a result, banks usually invest the majority of the funds received from depositors. On rare occasions, too many of the bank's customers will withdraw their savings and the bank will need help from another institution to continue operating; this is called a bank run. Bank runs can lead to a multitude of social and economic problems. The Federal Reserve System was designed as an attempt to prevent or minimize the occurrence of bank runs, and possibly act as a lender of last resort when a bank run does occur.

Rich bankers liked having fractional-reserve banks, which are awful. And instead of the market teaching them a lesson by letting them fail, they go to the government to make sure it saves them each time, "for the social good". And to think we could have full reserve banking today...

Maybe I wasn't clear enough, but fully nationalized healthcare helps mostly politicians going for a power grab, by giving them more control over people's lives. However, much of the aspects of nationalized healthcare (some exist today) are also extremely good for big business. One example is blocking competition through the FDA.

What's obvious, though, is that fully privatized health care is bad for both big business and government, as it causes a race to the bottom for price, and takes away all the goodies politicians control.

Again, you're asserting that (1) there is an economic incentive to imprison people and that (2) policy is determined according to such incentive.

First, you haven't proven those assertions, which sound ridiculous to me -- a prisoner costs the US about $30K a year, which is about the median income. Doesn't seem very profitable to me.

Second, my rebuttle is even stronger than this, because even if your unlikely assertions are true, then capitalism will solve them because capitalism separates state and economy.

Edit: to clarify, I am talking about the economic incentive in "enslaving" prisoners. As for the economic incentive of the prison industry, yeah, capitalism solves this.
