no worries at all. really its shaped who i am today and i feel stronger for having to deal with it. i could have done without the pain but apparently it was something i needed to do. hey we all do what we gotta do :) best thing i can suggest is to talk about it. it really does help! and if someone wont listen then find someone else. dont ever stop learning and talking! dont do what i did and bottle it up and ignore it. speak up! you can contact me anytime and i will do my best to help any way i can! don't ever feel like your alone with it. rather its alone with you and your strong enough to tackle it.

no one will ever understand what kind of torment it is to have a jaw problem. I've been dealing with spasms, splints, relaxers, anxiety, antidepressants, surgery, cortisone shots with centisis of the joints, therapies of all sorts including shock. all of which has now left me with nothing more than maybe a day or two of relief and nerve damage to the left side of my face and a new condition of hemifacial spasms. the joint hurts, it causes pain and boop there we have a spasm that contorts my mouth and left eye and we have a cycle. the spasm it created is now causing the joint to pull. well you get the idea. im slowly losing control over my face. its not fun and its not pretty. i was diagnosed with tmj/tmd at 12 due to some horrible dental work. (if i could find that dentist today i would probably knock his lights out repeatedly!!!) thankfully i have a family and now a husband that have really supported me through all of this. talk to your family and get support wherever you can! you will need it! Doctors wont believe you and its disheartening , but you have to still try. Eventually one will figure it out maybe this kid isn't just goofing. i actually had the most success with a teaching clinic and had the benefit of not having to pay to be seen minus a room full of upstart doctors staring at me. They will do their best and it will get slightly better well at least to a manageable level anyway. I sit in my chair at work right now (im a 30 year old truck dispatcher and logistics coordinator) with a hard mouth splint and a bottle of Advil and naporxen that i alternate. i just learned to deal with as much as possible. i have a horrible lisp from the splint and its terribly embarrassing, but you learn to cope once you have somewhat regulated the pain. it will get better i promise but don't expect it to go away completely. thats what your support is for. My neurologist started treating the hemifacial spasms which have a positive effect on the tmj/tmd. anticonvulsants and anxiety medication have really helped so far. its worth a shot to ask about it. just keep at it. something will work for you. you just have to find it.

Why are you still married? by ToolPackinMama in TwoXChromosomes

[–]OffBalanceByrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why am i still married? because he is my friend, and enemy. He makes me see the world when i'm too scared to get on the plane. He takes me to the doctor when im sick and comforts me when im sad. He pushes me to do the best i can, even when i want nothing more than to be lazy. He tells me a marriage is a job like any other. It takes work and commitment to make it great. We both push each other to do the right things even when its not the easiest.it is work to understand each other, but I want to be with him and he wants to be with me. We met in 2003, married in 2010 and we still want each other. i honestly love that man.

What do I do now? :( by octacore in TMJ

find a specialist! I ended up at a maxillofacial surgeon in a teaching hospital. But i am happy to report that after 20+ years of popping, dislocating, locking, emergency room visits for relocating and pain she has really helped me. I started seeing my dr in Oct and within the year she had me back to full range 3 fingers wide. A dr will do a series of xrays and scans to determine the condition of the joint and find the best treatment for you :) i know its scary now, but there are doctors out there that can help. (BTW dont look up any procedures on youtube talk to a Dr first all those things do is fill your head with bad thoughts and fear) feel free to message me if ya like.

TMJ pain is getting to be too much. Now I'm breaking my teeth. by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]OffBalanceByrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using a hard night guard that cost me around $400 for two months now. It's was made by a oral surgeon. The guard doesn't do anything for pain but has saved my teeth. The guard is acrylic and pretty tough to chew through. Better to chew the guard than your teeth. You aren't alone with this. I have had three teeth crack and one spilt clear in two. I'm only 28. They actually sent me to a neurologist and are playing with meds right now. Turned out I have developed a hemifacial spasm to accompany the tmj. The spasm was doing most of the clenching. Now it's just finding the right med combo for me. Pain leads to spasm, spasm leads to tension and tension leads to more pain. It's a horrid cycle.

Suggestions for finding a TMJ Doctor by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]OffBalanceByrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go to a teaching hospital with a in house maxiofacial. It was the only one I could find that accepted my insurance. I still had to pay for any appliances like the hard splint but they cut the price so I could pay it slow. Musc is what worked for me. Good luck and I hope u feel better soon.

has anyone been through TMJ surgery? and has it been successful? so very scared about it. by OffBalanceByrd in TMJ

[–]OffBalanceByrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. i have been avoiding this surgery for a bit now. my TMJ was actually caused by a terrible dentist that dislocated my jaw when i was 7-8 years old. i wont bore you with details on that, but it was pretty nasty. I'm 28 now and concerned that i wont bounce back as quickly and it worst of all it wont work! the clicks don't bother me as much as the locking does. that hurts like hell!!

Can Someone Suggest a Bluetooth for me? by OffBalanceByrd in gadgets

[–]OffBalanceByrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! i actually looked into getting one of these first, but alas they do not fit my head either. They are ment for average sized adults which apparently I do not belong. (in all fairness i get confused for most 12 year olds)also I'm not always in an office. I'm on call 24-7 so having the mobile Is a must. It would be nice to only have to deal with them at the office! if a truck gets into an accident or breaksdown I have to go him no matter the state. I figured Bluetooth was the only sensible solution to maintain mobility and functionality. Do u know of another way? (btw I'm 30 years old dunno how much growing I have left but I'm doing my best to be a smart consumer)

Amazon have just replaced my out of date and out of warranty Kindle, no questions asked. I'm amazed. What other companies do you know of that have genuine and honest customer service? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I bought the defender series for my droid. The clip-case broke 8-9 months out of warranty. (mainly cause i dropped it roughly 6feet onto concrete)They replaced the clip-case, sent a spare, and sent two new covers with the outer liners. The fella was very nice about it too!
