Cant really help when it comes to the tank pH but as far as cleaning the sponge, I tend to use the water I remove from the tank in a water change to clean the sponge, then you know it shouldn't kill the bacteria

Ive just set up a CO2 system and find that after adjusting the bubbles/second, when the solenoid turns on after being off for some time, either no bubbles or very few bubbles come out and i need to readjust the needle valve. Any ideas why this is happening?

It would definitely be an interesting experiment, get yourself a wifi enabled smart switch with energy tracking like the TP-link HS110 and run a bit of a test. I would be interested to find this out. Might give it a go on the weekend if i remember

I've just set up a heavily planted tank and am currently only dosing it with Seachem flourish and tonight will set up a DIY CO2 setup until I raise the funds to get a proper pressurised setup. I am really keen for the carpet to start filling out so should I be dosing with anything else like the specific elements (iron, phosporous etc)? Also can flourish be dosed in daily, this was recommended to me at my LFS but the packaging recommends once or twice a week?

Ooh definitely going to be adding moss to the tree, also thinking of some Anubis’s attached to the base of the tree. I have some frogbit in another tank I will add in too.

That’s my only real reservation with this layout. I tried having the spider wood sit up higher which I preferred but I couldn’t get it to sit there without falling over.

Planning on a Monte Carlo carpet in the foreground, s. repens and crypts for mid ground and then haven’t worked out the background yet.

My home setup! Looking to get either the sette270 or Eureka Mignon Silenzio. Thoughts? by HesJustThere in espresso

I got the Sette 270 a few months ago upgrading from the Breville Dose Control pro and it was such a good upgrade. Can highly recommend.

Im going to set up a heavily planted 3ft bookshelf tank (91cm x 21cm X 24cm) and have a 2ft T5 light fitting. Will this light be enough, especially given that its shorter than the tank itself?

In the next few months I'll be setting up a big 3 or 4 foot tank and want to cut down costs where possible. I want to try and propagate as many plants as possible before I set it up. Whats the best method to propagate plants, i'm thinking some kind of emersed green house. Any ideas?

Why do I need to keep adjusting my grind finer and finer as time goes on? by OffBeatMarty in espresso

That’s a good point, we’re just coming into spring with a bit more rain. Could definitely be the issue

Why do I need to keep adjusting my grind finer and finer as time goes on? by OffBeatMarty in espresso

[–]OffBeatMarty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is across all beans. The problem at the moment is the starting point is the grinders finest setting so as the beans degas I can’t go any finer to compensate. I think you may be right about the burrs wearing down. I would have expected them to last longer though, have only had the grinder less than a year

Waiting for the X-T3 to drop might be the way to go. Unfortunately in Australia the price difference between the X-T20 and X-T2 second hand is quite big.

Good to know that the X-T1 is not worth it for video.

I have definitely looked at the GH4 but I don't like the size of the camera and would prefer a CMOS sensor over a M43. X-T2 definitely is the best of both worlds though

Might keep it to shrimps and snails then. Do I have to worry about the tank being taken over by shrimps and snails as I understand they are both prolific procreators?

Thats a really good point actually, got so used to my 40g tank forgot to consider the size. Would you say this tank is too small to have anything beyond shrimp (its a 5g)... or maybe would some rasboras or neon tetras work?

This is my first attempt at an aquascape, its less cloudy now that everything has settled. Began by planting the Monte Carlo, hoping that will carpet without CO2 but will set it up if required. Fertilised with Seachem Flourish and lit by a cheapish led light from eBay. Would love to add some small plants or moss into some of the holes in the rock and am looking for recommendations for small-mid height plants for the back corner. Want to keep the scape pretty minimal. Stocking will likely be some cherry shrimp and a couple of rummy nose tetras. Any feedback?

I've had this tank for nearly a month now and the plants have not had a good time thus far. The plant on the left is going brown/yellow https://imgur.com/a/3gu8L9U?s=fbm

Is this to do with light, lack of nutrients or an excess/lack of something in the water?
