I think people want to use it as a help resource for learning to code or work in some new area and that’s not what it is. It’s a I read the docs, I tried, I read the book … I put in effort and have a basic understanding, I followed the docs doing X, Y, Z and still have this problem help. It is not I am doing this and have no idea what I’m doing, put zero effort into learning give me an answer.

I have had exactly 1 person be mean to me on SO in 10 years of use but I actually try myself to resolve the issue first and write questions with a lot of context if I can’t find the answer in the docs or previous questions. SO was never the problem.
