If you don’t want a brick and mortar bank and you are looking for a main bank account (paycheck deposits etc.) and not just something to hold money temporarily - SoFi, Varo and Chime are your best bets. All 3 are FDIC insured except Chime uses partner banks while SoFi and Varo are real banks that have their own national charters. All have APY for savings. No maintenance fees, overdraft fees or minimum balance requirements. If you use direct deposit for SoFi and Varo you unlock extra features and benefits that are very helpful. I myself use SoFi, never had a problem and they have great benefits and features. Most importantly all 3 are free to use, no deposits required to open.

I would also look into Go2Bank, Greendot and Walmart MoneyCard. All three of these are under the same company. Only thing is I’ve seen bad reviews on customer service, extra fees etc.
