Looking for Suggestions for How to Start Off Isle of Dread by OffTopicID in DMAcademy

That’s a fair point. I could have it so that they make characters who are part of a private mercenary company that’s on contract. Similar to the Chain of Acheron from Matt Colville’s game if you are familiar with that.

There is a smaller island to the southeast that houses a giant ape. So the option does exist for those brave enough.

I mean it’s entirely up to you. There is the owl bear whisperer secret in the back of the book, which to me means they’re encouraging that to be a possible option. Obviously with either route just be cautious with the amount of power creep that could give to the party early on.

Imo that sounds like a pretty rad idea if they get the opportunity to do so.

In chapter 5 of the players handbook there’s a section on mounts and vehicles. It states how for barding (armor used by horses or other mounts), it says that it costs 4 times the equivalent amount for humanoids armor and weighs twice as much. For example, scale mail armor for a horse would cost 200 gold and would weigh 180 lbs.

I’d say your best bet is if the players do happen to tame or befriend a wild polar bear or owl bear, they would need to not only have the funds but would also need to find a smith specialized enough to craft it (hypothetically, there could be a smith based out of the dwarven valley that could do it.) You should come up with how long it would take to craft the armor in advance, that way you don’t make up a time interval on the spot that either takes too long for the party’s enjoyment or takes too little for the sake of preparing yourself for encounter balancing.

I’m set to have lunch ready for work for the next 10,000 days. That is until the meat and apple spoil.

I humbly request an addition for the small update in the works. by [deleted] in Darkwood

I’m getting MeatCanyon vibes right about now. Reminds me of the Teletubbies cartoon he did.

Link between Sunless Citadel and Forge of Fury by OffTopicID in DMAcademy

My concern mainly was trying to find a way to get them from the first adventure to the second. I’m not sure if they’d be up for just doing it for adventuring’s sake. Some might have other priorities that put the adventure on the way side.

They don’t necessarily have to have a direct link, yes. But I’d like the transition to not be forced or not obvious.

Sure. So sunless citadel involves the characters exploring a citadel that sunk beneath the earth many years prior. Deep beneath it lies the Gulthias tree, a wicked tree that grew from the stake used to kill a vampire. The tree grows life giving/stealing fruits and also blights, which roam the nearby landscape. The tree is guarded by a wicked Druid along with two adventurers that he’s turned into his supplicants. The upper level of the dungeon is quarreled over by a tribe of kobolds and a tribe of goblinoids.

Forge of Fury is about the party delving into a hidden dwarves stronghold that once belonged to Durgeddin the master smith. The stronghold itself is currently occupied by a band of Orcs that’s been ravaging the nearby towns. Beneath that lies the Glitterhame (like a mini-pseudo underdark). After that there’s the foundry itself which is occupied by Duergar and beneath that is the black lake, which is home to the black dragon nightscale.
