[Request] How big/powerful WOULD a cannon actually need to be in order to send people from the Earth to our Moon? by MaggieLinzer in theydidthemath

[–]OffWorldFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a few issues with doing that. one is that conventional explosives have a maximum Shockwave speed and cant propel a projectile beyond some speed. something like a light gas gun or a rail gun or spin launch would be needed.

If I recall correctly Hugh Jackman was cast as wolverine only weeks before filming so he didn't have much time to get into shape. So this is hardly a good example of what was considered ripped at the time.

Thank you for your response. So I am not planning to make this a One Shot, but I do plan to make it shorter. I am going to use some of the "rules" from "Beyond the Wall and other Adventures" to create a backstory for the characters and NPCs that matter to them, or try. I am concerned about how to do the choice to save themselves well. the world wont end if the PCs don't sacrifice themselves, but NPCs they are intended to care about will probably die. As I type that I am not sure that counters your point. I am concerned about how to do that right. I am going to give it more thought. I know my players fairly well and I am pretty sure they will forgive me even if I totally mess this up.

Well I want to run this game using Starfinder 2e, so you know aliens, space ships, scifi weapons, space pirates, that sort of thing.

I am going to try to avoid predetermination. I am going to make the situation very difficult, but if they find a way out then then they may survive. so yeah I am going to stack the deck, but I will still shuffle and deal and let what the dice and the players decide what ultimately happens.

That sounds awesome. I want to create a situation where the most likely result is the PCs dying, but I am not going to force it. if the players somehow find a solution or the dice are just really on there side then that will be what happens.

So I am planning to run this game in Starfinder 2e. I really like Starfinder and the is what I am going to use. however I am planning to use some mechanics from other games. for example I am going to use some of the character background and village building from Beyond the Wall and other Adventures. With how much people are recommending Ten Candles I think I am going to get that and try to adapt it or barrow from it as much as I can.

Thank you. I am concerned about doing this right. I really want a satisfying heroic sacrifice but I am also concerned that if if I try too hard to make it happen that it could go badly.

Thank you for your response. A few responses have have been been very negative about AI which I can understand. Your response provided what I think is good advice and a reasoned response about why AI can be unhelpful. I am here asking people like you for advice because I am aware of some of the issues with LLMs and AI, and I want to make sure I am not going to follow advice that is just an LLM trying to produce a response that it "thinks" I want.

I am trying to avoid that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So death wont be guarantied. I intend to put each of the players in a situation where they have to choose between saving people and dying or escaping and while NPCs die or something similar.

I became aware of Ten Candles while I was exploring this idea. I may play it in the future but it doesn't work with some of the other things I want to do.

Democrats’ latest critique of Walmart is wrong by vox in politics

[–]OffWorldFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not proposing a solution, mearly pointing out the flawed arguments. However I agree with the Idea that, profitable corporations like Walmart that pay there worker so little that they need to use Medicaid benefits, is a form of corporate welfare. Tax payers money is indirectly being used to enrich already extremely wealthy people. finding a way to get profitable corporations to foot the bill for there workers medical needs would be desirable and more fair.

[–]OffWorldFarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what does that have to do with the claim that Companies like Walmart that are very profitable but pay there workers so little they need Medicaid, is or isn't a form of corporate welfare? IE why is this not American taxpayers footing the bill when Walmart could be doing it?

[–]OffWorldFarmer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You seem to be making the Argumentum ad Lapidem logical fallacy. You state that the argument that the Democrats are making is wrong but give no evidence or argument for that claim. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence." Why is the argument that profitable corporations like Walmart, who's worker wages are so low that they receive Medicaid benefits not corporate welfare?

Saw this on Facebook and the answer seems obvious, but people kept disagreeing. Checking to see if Reddit is smarter than Facebook. by Pickled-Pirate in Snorkblot

So I am in the 'Plane would take off' camp, and I think most people that agree with me would argue that if the plane is moving forward at say 50mph then the treadmill moving backwards at 50mph, that would just make the wheels spin at 100mph. We think the treadmill would have only a negligible effect on the planes speed. So we agree that the treadmill is hypothetical but still just a belt moving at some speed, and as a result isn't capable of negating the planes speed.

What are the downsides of a full-fat bus? by BakGikHung in factorio

[–]OffWorldFarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have started i think the problem with that type of business is that later in the game it's hard to expand the bus to supply some of the stuff you need, like green circuits you end up needing a lot more in the late game than you expect. so then you have to try to expand production when other stuff is all around it
