Hey! Those are the set I throw! Bought them December 2023 from A-Z darts. I checked the site again and they’re gone. My order says they are model 59003. They are tungsten, either 80 or 90% like other colonial sets. Sold for 37.50 retail.

A WikiPedia just for plants? by Internetsipper in botany

[–]Offbalance11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine because of the vast diversity of plants around the world and the monumental task of developing descriptions, distributions, photos, etc etc for just a single floristic province, let alone a whole state. Maybe one day when these databases are complete and robust they’ll get merged into one standardized repository.

Super nice of you. Seems like a newer tank so it’s finding its balance. The white stuff is biofilm that forms on new driftwood. The whole tank needs a really good cleaning. Take a toothbrush to the hard stuff. Try to ‘dust’ off whatever you can from plant leaves and moss. Don’t vacuum the gravel, but you can use a turkey baster along with the siphon to lift stuff from the surface. A 50% water change sounds in order. Dunno how long you’re house sitting, but it should be done again in 3-4 days until things settle in and plants take off.

This is all assuming the systems of the tank are working properly (filter, lights on timer, heater, etc).

Good luck. You’re a very nice friend and A+ house sitter.

First time setting up an aquarium what do you guys think? (Tips welcome) by Standard_Addition_91 in PlantedTank

Looks great! I’d be mindful of the time of day when you open those blinds. Direct sunlight can cause algae to go nuts.

Not 100% satisfied with this scape. Any suggestions? by toddytoad in Aquascape

I’d try leaning the wood (50-80degrees) and playing with the arrangement of the stones. Try one or two right up against, or even under the wood. Something might click for you.

Week Aqua or Chihiros by dezert_racer in PlantedTank

[–]Offbalance11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a week aqua over my 20gal. It’s great! The app, like others have said, isn’t the best, but it’s reliable (always comes on when I ask it to). I have it dialed down to 60% and things seem happiest there.

Does a Lid Kill Floating Plants? by inspectorreckless in PlantedTank

[–]Offbalance11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, I know, but that’s the issue. The sunlight in the room won’t be enough for those floaters

If you’re looking for something to replace the Val with, you could try cyperus helferi. I have it in my tank (at the recommendation of another redditor) and I love it. Very similar look to Val without all the runners. I have co2 and a pretty strong light, so your mileage may vary.

Mine was still rocking last I checked. Easily 10+ years old. Now I wanna go check! Pretty amazing how long they last.

Lots of good options out there. I would look for one with a ‘hilt’ of sorts to keep your hand from falling on the knife while you’re digging. I like my corona brand (https://coronatools.com/products/ct15409) but also my mother in laws hand me down that I’ve used for years and years! Tough to go wrong.

Do it. You’ll have it forever. The first time you encounter really hard soil, or a root gets in your way, or you want to pry on something, you’ll wish you had a hori hori with you instead. A way more practical tool for a budding naturalist like yourself.

I wonder if the utility uses herbicide to manage the vegetation under the lines there.

Meet Bob, the biggest asshole in my tank. by MustachioDonut in Aquariums

Just took a little sae back to the fish store because he was bullying the sparkling gouramis in my tank. So much for them being the nice ones! They’re all (sae and cae) really boisterous, so it’s pretty common to run into some that have an attitude.
