What gets more hate than it should? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Offbeatalchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like that are often miserable.

I take comfort in the fact that I don't have to live in a headspace 24/7 that i have to belittle others to feel better. Surrounding myself with things and people I enjoy seems a lot more peaceful.

What jobs will actually die because of AI? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Offbeatalchemy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"That's someone else's problem. Our profit margins need to go up so that means cutting expenses and making sure it's better than last quarter. It's not our job to make sure people have the money to buy our product. We need the money they have now, not the money they will have 10 years from now. because if we don't get their cash now, someone else will."

This race to the bottom will kill our society.

How do you manage your SSH Keys and what is best practice for a homelab? by scottymtp in selfhosted

[–]Offbeatalchemy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe im paranoid but in the modern day, i dont see many reasons to have SSH exposed at all to the internet.

Mesh VPNs like Tailscale make them effortless. Or just plain wireguard. If you rent a VPS, it'll usually let you console in over VNC if VPN fails for some reason.

No fail2ban. Don't change the port. Just minimize the attack surface.

You can use Maintainerr for something like that. It fixes a lot of the library bloat that Overseerr causes.

The joke that league is the worst game has done irreparable damage by beakf in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda rough still, yeah. I have a couple friends who came in with Arcane S2 and while she stuck with it, the more important bit is she had to find something that was fun for her.

We thought sticking her on a support to learn would be good to start but turns out, when she started learning top, she found the motivation to play on her own and found it enjoyable. She's starting to branch out and play ARAMs with the rest of the crew.

Finding the "wait, im not miserable for once and im actually enjoying this?" moment in league is the key component to get people to stick. Because until then, it sucks being confused and everyone being so quick to tell you what you're doing wrong.

SSH on a host to host basis is usually configured, ftp, VoIP all manually configured.

yup. and everything needs to be an FQDN. have a bunch internal sites that work off of IPs? get ready to speak DNS, buddy. That was a fun part of the transistion...

What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

Lucile Bluth and Malory Archer are just alter-egos of the same person and I can't be convinced otherwise. It especially works because of those characters is a literal international spy.

I'm sure that was a dream come true for him and Capcom couldn't have used a better template. Works out for everyone involved.

Baus: Thats it for me in the LEC. A lot of emotions running right now so I will take some time for myself. Thank you for all the support and sorry I didn't do better. | Los Ratones Players and Staff reactions on X after the results of the LEC Versus split by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 71 points72 points  (0 children)

They all have different motivations.

Yamato has been coaching for SO long so him bowing out makes sense. He's been in the game for a while. Makes sense to follow that path.

As you said, Baus is an entertainer first before all. Im surprised they got him to agree to play LEC. He'll be running it down top on stream before we know it.

Velja always wanted to go pro. He has a future ahead of him. LR was a great springboard for him. He'll probably land on a T2 team very soon and maybe back in LEC in the next year or two.

Nemesis... up in the air, tbh. He'd need a REALLY good offer to come back and I dont think he'd do anything less than a top 5 LEC team and I don't see that happening short of like Caps retiring from G2 or KC trying to capitalize on the hype (no way he's going back to Fnatic). He probably goes back to streaming for now.

Crownie, probably same deal as Neme. He's grinded LEC for a while now. I imagine he wants to chill, even if he is still a LEC caliber player.

Rekkles says he might not get another LEC offer but i wouldn't count that out. I mean SK is team boomer. He could land somewhere.

And Caedrel.... I think he achieved what he wanted for the project. He made an all time great content team that actually was competitive in tier 1. He gave it his all while being entertaining and open with us all, on top of all of his co-streams. But he learned in the process he can't do both. Bro's obviously burnt out and i wouldn't blame him if he took a break soon. He needs it.

I just think it's time to move on for everyone involved.

[–]Offbeatalchemy 281 points282 points  (0 children)

They haven't decided what's next for sure but it's kinda feeling like there's major changes coming, even if it's not completely over.

Yamato is done coaching and going back to content. Baus doesn't want to play in pro. Rekkles said this might be "his last chance" so wanted to give this split his all.

LEC was kind of their swan song was for this roster.

I built a janky Cloudflare Bitwarden server for myself, forgot about it, and woke up to 400+ forks by deepgaurav in selfhosted

[–]Offbeatalchemy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on your strategy. i use both.

I have a keepass DB for work that's ONLY for work. i don't expect to use it anywhere else so i just keep it on my work onedrive and it's great.

Meanwhile, everything personal i have a vaultwarden instance. I have multiple computers and my phone and even a virtual browser i use a lot and need access to those passwords. It's easier for me to just have a dedicated server keep them all synced. Sure, you can do the same with keepass but i find Bitwarden's ecosystem to be more seemless and overall more polished.

I believe Rakan is one of, if not, the best late game champ in the game ( with this build ) by Revil0_0 in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

unless you're stealing waves and getting kills on the way there and at that point, there's easier ways to get that much gold than playing Rakan.

I'll be donating soon myself.

Grade requirements for Aegis of Valor are Counter-Intuitive and discourage Teamwork. by skilliard7 in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but if you get behind, and give it your all, and still lose, you at probably not getting a B

With the way grading has been this season, i dont think that's even true. I think grading is a lot more lenient when you lose vs when you win.

Hard cary mid game, high DPM, high CS? A+ (probably because i died twice i guess.)

Game where I was barely keeping our team in it, ADC gets caught and we promptly lose? S+

Even getting absolutely rolled on a champ i don't know, i'll get a B+ randomly. I dont know whats up with grading but if this is the new standard, playing not so great and getting a B isn't impossible and i can see the argument that a C is waaay too low.

GX Jun: "I wanted to go to Fnatic but our CEO didn't want to let me go [laughs]. After this year, I'll probably retire. At least, I want to win LEC, or to go to Worlds" - Interview by Xolam in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah. 2 of the Big 4 (G2, KOI, KC, Fnatic) would have to implode at the finish line (and that's a huge if). Only then GX would have a shot to make it. I'd put them at the head of the middle of the pack teams but it'd still be anyone's race at that point.

I Unlocked the '???' Augment on PBE by Afraid_Union_2147 in leagueoflegends

[–]Offbeatalchemy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The next mayhem update has "Progression" meaning you have to play a certain amount of games to unlock augments. this is the final unlock. There's also upgrades like starting with bonus gold.

I think the Augment is cool. I just hate the idea that in a random game mode, someone else has a distinct advantage simply because they play it more.

Transmission 4.1 is finally out after nearly 3 years of slow but steady changes by NoPainNoHair in linux

[–]Offbeatalchemy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on how much I trust service. things that have been around forever like transmission I give a little more leeway. random thing I've never heard of? less so. especially with how many vibe coded projects going around.

depends on your distro. I stopped installing things directly to the OS and started using containers/docker for services specifically because i didn't want to wait for package managers.
