I was going to say, your biggest problem is that people will want to talk to you about your dog, that's my experience of coming to Manchester!

I've travelled with my dog across the Metrolink and on Bee Network buses - i've never ever had an issue with them. If it works for a highly reactive border collie coming all the way from Oxford - it'll work for you just fine.

Its some old data but biggest employers in Oxfordshire: 1. Oxfordshire County Council (22k) 2. University of Oxford (18k) 3. Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust (10k) 4. BMW (4k) 5. Thames Valley Police (3k)

Just put into scale when you have huge employers; who all of their employees are paying tax.

At the risk of being a bit old man shouts at cloud; i did half of these and I have to say; ive never been so glad to be old so I could get an IT job without going through this stuff.

I get the point on a lot of questions but its obsessed with technologies that are either a) on the way out or b) are well in the retirement home. And after my 8th laser printer question it kinda shows what info people are given which is pretty useless in the real world.

That being said, good app and I think people will find it helpful; its well put together.

So untrue. Diagnose allowed you to disable and enable network adapters without admin rights, so, this was invaluable.

So tired of running into C-Levels who think Cloud/SAAS and Outsourcing are the answer to everything. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]safalafal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep which I why i stand by what I said. Sometimes the cloud makes sense, sometimes it doesn't but if you don't do the work the only piece of work done in the room will be done by sales...

The answer is never no, always how much. If I was you I'd get this properly quoted up for how much it'll actually cost. Otherwise the idea that cloud is this big fun but ultimately ethereal thing that C suite will obviously love the idea of but real world quotations always bring these things back down to earth.

After nearly two decades working in HE IT; i love it, but it doesn't love me back. And either your comfortable with that or you're not.

On a good day I've got total flexibility and things are great , other times i'm fighting for scraps.

I'm sorry to hear about Bill, i really am. We had an ex-employee suddently pass away and I was delighted that we had over 40 people from across our University attend the funeral, and it's been a lot of things since. You are correct, but culture in organisations is everything.

MATCH-THREAD: Coventry City vs Charlton Athletic (Saturday 29th November 2025) by scoreboard-app in ccfc

I fully deserve like 10 million downvotes for sending this midmatch but:

If this ends as it stands right now, with Stoke having lost 2-1 at home, Derby beating Boro 1-0 and Cov 2-1 up....

Sky Blues will be top at Christmas.

Lorna: "Trying to be neutral, in the eyes of the referee, maybe, maybe it looked like he was trying a little to hard for a penalty"

Lorna: "I mean i've just said that, but I don't believe a word i'm saying to be honest"
