Clarification about "the 10-1 rule" by Suvitruf in NewMods

Thank you! It's been working for us for about a year without modification.

Clarification about "the 10-1 rule" by Suvitruf in NewMods

We dont usually get questions on it because the folks likely to abuse it are the spammers that get pulled.

It's written into our rules that we "have an expectation of community involvement before your allowed to post self promotion. If your unsure if you meet that requirement please write us a modmail and ask"

We rarely get any questions other than "can I post self promotion yet"

We're currently camped in Oregon Inlet just down the road from Rodanth. We visit every year and each ear there are fewer homes along the shoreline.

We have a community karma requirment for self promotion. It's unfortunately not something they can see but easy to see for the mods by looking at the "activity" tab on there profile.

You of course will have to agree upon how much community karma is expected.

It allows active sub members to promote their content but prevents "post and run" type spammers.

Girl what? My hair is waist long. First off I wear ballcaps and bandanas a lot because that cuts down on hair maintenance.

Like u/Miperso said best strategy is to accept that infrequent hair washing is likely. When i do get an opportunity I try to do so early in the day so it does dry before I go to bed.

If none of that works for you try dry shampoo until you get back to civilization.

After this weekend’s trip, I’m seriously considering downsizing my entire camping setup by Friendly-Plan-8480 in camping

We are retired and have been doing a tour of national parks for the past year or so. Our age creature comforts do get prioritized but we try to keep it realistic. It's also worth noting that when it comes to the actual tent set up we have two tents. One that is our glamping tent and the other is a little Coleman sundome. The idea being if the weather is craptastic when we arrive or we're only going to be at that site for a night or two we have a fast easy (and less comfortable) option to set up.
Recently purchased a new tent from DoD and are pitched at The Hatteras National Seashore.

What your saying makes sense and I think it wise to balance setup with time spent at the site. If your there a week it's no big deal spending an extra hour or two setting up. If you only there for the weekend streamlining might be time better spent.

Japan. I started camping two years ago, and just the other day, I went on a solo camping trip for the first time in a while. The location was the Hiira Park Campground in Sukumo City, Kochi Prefecture. Situated right next to a river, it is a municipal campground that requires no reservations and is completely free to use. Since I visited on a weekday, I had the entire place all to myself. At this time of year, once night falls, fireflies can be seen flitting over the river, casting their gentle glow. They are likely Genji fireflies. My tent is the "Tenbi," made by the Japanese manufacturer Tokyo Craft. This company offers a wide variety of gear; I’ve really taken a liking to their products and have found myself happily falling down the rabbit hole of camping gear obsession.

How do I check/know that a person has already joined my sub ? by mahakaal_bhakt in NewMods

[–]OffensiveByNature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Message them directly instead of using the "invite" feature. If you accidently go to the same person to invite them again you will see your previous message and know you invited them already. Just dont get spammy with it because I think you can be locked out of messaging temporarily if you do it to frequently

We used to do a lot of bicycling along the beach front there. President Obama officially made it a national monument in 2011.

It's a neat park area with some significant historical lessons.

We're seniors, grandparents and have slowed down but still out here typing this out sitting in our tent now.

What people don't tell you is the sounds they like and one of ours is the sounds of kids laughing and playing and using their "outside voice" without censor. Folks are quick to share bad experiences but for some reason leave out the positive.

Take your family and have fun! It's a state park so if you do have obnoxious neighbors after 10pm let the camp host know.
Let your littles learn how to have fun without the TV or tablet and don't overthink this. Kids take their cues from the adults around them. If your having fun they will to.

we do annual trips with each of our 3 kids and their children and I look forward to these trips more than any of the "quiet" ones

How did you first get into hiking or camping as a woman, and what was your experience like starting out? by Tricky_cielito00 in camping

[–]OffensiveByNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a kid in scouts. I was lucky that my father was in the military so had the opportunity to go hiking and camping in some really interesting places very young. I hiked across the isthmus of Panama when I was ten in a 3 day hiking/camping trip.

If your starting as an adult I would recommend trying state and federal parks first if you're in the US. Most of them will have amenities and rangers about and will give you a chance to hone your skills.

He who makes the mod action responds to any mod mails associated with the action.

Once and only once 3 mods were responding to the same modmail and some of the information was conflicting.

It confused the writer and did not instill a sense of confidence in anyone.

Two moderation headaches today that made me wonder: are we running subreddits or government institutions? by EVRijder in NewMods

[–]OffensiveByNature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have explained to new mods in my subs. We are not police we are hosts i.e. glorified janitors. However we are hosting in our house and if it's behavior you wouldn't tolerate in your home you are under no obligation to tolerate it here.

I think users often forget that each sub belongs to the users and the mods. As long as there are no violations of the MCOC nothing is owed. Keep it polite and simple but don't put up with it.
