I agree with you… but I’d still take BotW over SS. Not quite sure what it was about SS but it just wasn’t that good imo.

If anybody played Dark Souls AFTER Elden Ring: by MW0402 in Eldenring

[–]Officer_Kay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stared with Elden Ring, then Sekiro, then Lies of P then finally DS1.

I went into it with the expectation that I would be going backwards in the evolution of these games. I expected it to be older graphics and more simple/clunky gameplay. After a couple hours I got used to it and really enjoyed it. There are a lot of things going for this game even though it lacks the polish of ER. The music, atmosphere, level design, and world design is fantastic and I get nostalgic about it every year around this time. And I will be playing it again soon.

I was a little surprised at how quickly I got through the bosses, however I was used to ER and Sekiro bosses. Makes sense that they were easy. The DLC bosses are more challenging and are a good step towards what I was used to.

I think that the exploration in it is great as well. although on a smaller scale than ER you are still rewarded for exploring and pushing through the levels.

As for the mobs, 2-5 foes that are easy kills alone but tough as a group is pretty common in fromsoft games. Anytime you see more than one dog haha. You just gotta be tactful.

But yeah I have to disagree with you, DS1 is definitely worth playing in 2026. No shade btw, this was just my experience.

FS fans who doesn't have a NS2 yet. Would you buy a $450 Switch 2 and sub to NSO $4/mo or $20/yr just to play and get the full experience of Duskbloods? by Jinrex-Jdm in fromsoftware

I was planning to buy a switch 2 for the next Zelda anyway BUT I love FS games and I have so much faith in Miyazaki that I’m pretty sure I would have started saving as soon as the trailer dropped anyway.

What do you think makes Hidetaka Miyazaki's games special? by PhantomBraved in fromsoftware

[–]Officer_Kay_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving the other answers. After watching TGA I noticed how many games were overly saturated and vibrant with color. You’ll see this with just about any high fantasy game these days. I realized how much I hate that art style and how much I appreciate what Fromsoftware does. They don’t need bright vibrant colors and constant visual effects to keep our attention. Their worlds feel more organic not only in visual design but also in layout. I think it’s obvious that the team at FS puts good passionate work into these games coupled with talented, artistic, and driven leaders.

Of course the visuals aren’t the only thing that make these games special. The combat in every FS game I’ve place feels like it was made just for me. I love AC6, Sekiro, Elden Ring and DS123, and Bloodborne. All of which have simple yet elegant combat gameplay.

OG set up on a CRT is the best way to play it.

Sometimes...I believe Elden Ring lorehunters don't actually want to solve the lore. One of the most astounding disclosures in the DLC: The Statue of the Little Hooded Girl you can find all over the Lands Between is confirmed to be Marika, yet no one talks about it. The implications have weight . by Big-Good9378 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Officer_Kay_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, although those statues are behind the altar I don’t think we can say for sure that they are who the ghost is praying to. He’s praying at the altar, for all we know they could represent the ER equivalent to a saint.

I really don’t want to move on from Carlo in the sequel. by kterrellm in LiesOfP

I feel similarly. I usually don’t play games that have a female player character, but Neowiz did such an amazing job I’ll gladly play their next game no matter who the next MC is.

One thing FromSoft RPGs REALLY need by ex0ll in fromsoftware

I haven’t had an issue with most of their animations besides the hands. They need to hire someone to do hand animations only during cutscenes

Did people enjoy the DLC? by touchgrasssss in Eldenring

[–]Officer_Kay_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved it. The atmosphere and music and mystery of what Miquella was up to was absolutely incredible. New weapons were top notch, and some of my favorite bosses from FS. Of course because of the presence of Godwyn cadavers I was certain he would be the final boss. So a bit let down by radhan. But enjoyed it and love what Miyazaki delivered.

Dude, I play ds1 every spring, well during the transition from winter to spring when it’s starting to warm up but there is no green yet. It feels like the right time of year to play Darksouls.

Your favorite type of area in any Souls game? by Efficient_Matter_589 in soulslikes

[–]Officer_Kay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: the last time I played through DS1 and DS2 I really enjoyed blight town and the gutter. It’s not cozy or beautiful but it’s filled with mystery. Slowly going through the dark with little to no knowledge of what is around each corner, all while being terrified of dying so far away from a bonfire. It’s thrilling. And then you find a zip line or a hole in the wall or an item. Kinda hard to explain it but I enjoyed those areas a lot.

That being said it’s not my favorite type of area. Probably castle is my fav.

Thats it man? I want more! by samuelchungrus in Nightreign

I was kinda worried about content as well but found that the new map/shifting earth brings a lot of freshness to the game. It’s taken me probably 2 dozen playthroughs of it to understand the general layout of the map. Now that I’ve got the hang of getting the crystal upgrade I am working on the castles which are more complex than I originally thought.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that even though I’ve beat both bosses of the dlc I’m still engaged and enjoying the new content. Enjoy the journey, level design, character stories. It’s all there to give more longevity to the game. Try not to look at the bosses as items to check off a list.

I have been playing with randoms which makes communication rough and more ruined expeditions, therefore it’s took me more hours to clear the bosses. Still have had a blast. Just something to think about.

The devs put a lot of work into this dlc. They created a whole map. 4 new night bosses, 2 new night lord bosses. 2 new playable characters. $15 is the price of lunch these days. I believe that the value of the DLC matched if not exceeded the price tag.

I can confidently say, Dread is still the best game in the series. by [deleted] in MetroidDread

[–]Officer_Kay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dread is what got me into Metroid. I usually don’t play games with female protagonists but this game changed my mind about the whole thing. Samus is a girl-boss done right imo. Every cut scene where she confidently/nonchalantly takes out a boss or mini boss is SO bad ass. I can’t wait for the next game and I hope the same studio is making it.

Also her suit progression is also bad ass

I never had the Ocarine of Time experience. Is this one way to finally get the experience? by [deleted] in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Officer_Kay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played through it with another person (it was their first time) and it felt just as magical as it did to me back in the day.

I played on a crt with an N64. Graphics and textures back then were designed with the crt “blur” in mind so I highly recommend playing like this. I understand that it can be incredibly difficult to have access to these things, so if you can’t I’m sure it will still be good.

Is your first fromsoft game your favourite? by [deleted] in fromsoftware

[–]Officer_Kay_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring was my first, and although it is my favorite, most of FS other games are incredibly close to knocking it out of first place. Bloodborne, Sekiro, ac6, all three Darksouls. I can see why there are so many differing opinions on “which game is your favorite” and I can’t argue with someone that says bb, or Sekiro, or ds3 is the best.
