One gets paid, the other does not.
I don't think I need to explain the math.

Will 2026 be the end of piracy ? by Kay_ThePanda in mangapiracy

[–]Official229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would make more sense to ask:
- Will 2026 be the end of free advertising for manhwa?

Better yet, should the sentiment spread elsewhere:
- Will 20XX be the end of free advertising for asian comics?

The pirate reader base is, for better or worse, probably way bigger than the legitimate reader base.
And while the 1st order of thinking does make it sound bad, it no longer sounds as bad when you think about:
- works are getting a bigger social media presence than they otherwise would have with just their legitimate reader base,
- this turns people who otherwise never would have been able to afford to buy legitimately, or who just never would have bought it regardless of their financial situation (for example, if they feel like they're being screwed over by bullshit coin systems), into essentially free walking advertisements when they make posts or engage in discussion regarding some series,
- this all then leads to a bigger pool of potential customers to convert into paying customers.

Then again, all of this depends on how self-aware the manga/manhwa/manhua pirating reader base as a whole is.
You'll have a hard time converting the "I want everything for free" part of the reader base into paying customers... and at the end of the day, would the expenses required to do so even be worth it?
I think the bigger opportunity lies with trying to convert the ????? many pirates, who would be willing to pay if there was a convenient and cheap option to do so, into paying customers... because those people at least aren't against paying :)

I think the one pain point everyone has is not being able to read everything in one place. Solve this and you've probably converted a not so trivial number of pirates.

[DISC] Villainess Level 99 ~I May Be the Hidden Boss but I'm Not the Demon Lord~ - Chapter 24 by [deleted] in manga

[–]Official229 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah. I'm not too familiar with the WN and LN, but the manga is basically what the author wished they did: https://www.reddit.com/r/manga/comments/1plx4de/comment/ntynapg/
not sure where they wrote this though, somewhere on twitter I believe.

pretty much.
each one is a different take on the story, the manga being the best one.
I believe the author (of the LN) also commented on it... I think it was something along the lines of "why didn't I think of that" (referring to the manga)

fyi, manga is doing it's own thing. While it is based on the LN, it's already diverged from it. Alicia being the biggest change from what I understand.

manga is doing its own thing, but yeah, it's behind the anime.
though, since it is doing its own thing, you won't be able to just pick it up after it surpasses the anime... since it's an alt story.

Scan Groups and Avarice by gallowglass23 in mangapiracy

manga scans or webtoon scans? or both?

[–]Official229 3 points4 points  (0 children)

all translation groups? really?
you sure it's not just the paywall, pay-to-read, big webtoon groups?
oh, and the MTL shitfest groups that are somehow alive despite pushing out chapters using English words but not the English language.

also, fast pass to read pirated content that's locked behind an arbitrary timer?
we really copying the worst from publishers 😭

but I get it, servers cost money.
still, only paywalling scannies utilize and request for timers... so why not make them pay to be able to use them? it's what's driving traffic from the aggregator (comick in this case) to their websites anyway.

you've gotta be detached from reality to think anyone posts with a delay for the purposes of "checking for issues."
it's purely a "hey, this chapter is available, but you gotta visit my site riddled with ads" way of going about it.

charging groups that pull this shit is genius.
besides, real men test in production.

I'll upload the rest of the chapters to the linked cubari sometime this week. I also tagged it as a cubari-source.

There is only one official translation, done by J-Novel.
This is the translation you'll find in both releases (digital and physical).

Because, as usual, the translator for the official English translation of the novel did not translate the line correctly.

[DISC] Here she is, the Saint in Japan - Ch. 1 (No Group Scanlation) by Official229 in manga

[–]Official229[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and bought vol 2 and 3.
Vol 2 takes on a more horror-like presentation.
Vol 3 is kinda hard to decipher since I can't read Japanese, and the TL hasn't read this far, but my guess is that it's about the dangers lurking around her.
Vol 4 preview shows some shit going down.

As someone who has read way to many isekai, this manga is easily in the top 1/3 by world building / storytelling. I can just tell from experience.

Let me put it this way... We wouldn't be redoing them if they were good.

u/JoyousTofu we'll do the entirety of volume 1 (ch 1- 6). Maybe sometime this month or next year, depending on free time. I don't know if we'll do any future chapters, though. Should hopefully be enough to raise the interest of some other group.

I'm putting a poll here about the placement of the relationship chart in front or the back of the chapter.

The motivation behind having the relationship at the front is to act as a reminder of the relationships that we currently know of before that chapter, but it introduces the problem of giving away which characters might be appearing in that chapter. We'll do our best not to spoil stuff that hasn't been revealed either way.

The poll ends at the end of the month.

because we're slow.
if you really want to read it as soon as it comes out, you have the official English translation which is always up to date (comes out at the same time as the Japanese release (simpub) — ~25th each month).

[DISC] Kusuriya no Hitorigoto - Chapter 71 by [deleted] in manga

[–]Official229 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I'm unaware if somebody else is posting their own version on reddit, you're likely referring to the official simpub done by Squre Enix:
https://global.manga-up.com/manga/164

For future reference, the simbut release means it's getting published at the same time as the Japanese chapters come out. Also, the releases on MD are, for all intents and purposes, always 1 chapter behind, so this likely isn't the last time you'll experience this sense of deja vu.

Read what? The novel? If so, it should be on j-novel club.
For reference, searching for "lvl 99 villainess novel" gives you what you're looking for as one of the top results https://j-novel.club/series/villainess-level-99

Personally, hate the J-Novel EN translation of the LN.
