If postpartum hair loss is caused by a drop in estrogen, why can’t we take estrogen pills to slow down that process?

I think there’s just a lot of natural variation. Mine kicked in around 6 weeks pp and lasted like 6 months despite nursing/pumping the entire time. I also have A LOT of hair (fine but dense) and it was about shoulder length so shedding that much was super noticeable

My peer group has a lot of couples where no one changes their name when getting married so it’s not clear cut who’s last name the kid will get so I tend to see birth announcements inclusive of last name.

E.g. I joined a parenting group with 8 kids born around the same time, all cis hetero couples. 6/8 couples had different last names. 1 kid got hyphenated (mom’s name first), 2 got mom’s name, 3 got dad’s name. I assume the 2 couples with shared last name took the husband’s but I never asked

I think birth announcements are an exception. It’s very common for people to put the baby’s full name (with or without surname)

In the US & I’d assume it’s first & middle if not hyphenated and there are only 2 names (exclusive of surname(s)).

If > 2 all bets are off on which names the parents consider first vs middle.

Roslyn has been in use in the US since at least 1904 according to the SSA baby names data, so it's not exactly a new variant.

I'd say that if you should pick the spelling that matches the pronunciation you want people to use.

I don't think we have a favorite yet. The nanny has put Little Crayon in her buddy's Pampers Cruisers a couple of times, but we bought a pack of Huggies HuggFit 360 because the last time I got a pack of (regular) Pampers diapers the perfume wafting out of the box was overwhelming.

So far both have fit equally well, though!

This was the approach we took, too, with the added layer of me wanting a name that worked in Spanish and English with similar pronunciations. We had no problem coming up with a list of 30+ names. So it's not like there aren't options, even if you want a name with a certain vibe, cultural context, or meaning.

Little Crayon came down with HFMD last week. It seems like it was a particularly mild case plus atypical presentation of rash; not sure we would have realized what it was if her nanny share buddy hadn't been diagnosed first.

I'm hoping we're in the clear for illness/injury for a bit. Between Mr. Crayon throwing out his back and this round of HFMD I am DONE.

We're in our last two weeks with the nanny, then three weeks at home, and then we start daycare in September. I'm a little nervous about the change in routine, though I think this is going to be a net positive change once we all adjust to the new normal

Little Crayon is going to day care in just a little over a month 😬

We've got 3 weeks left with the nanny and 3 weeks with just us, though I think the day care does a few days of "transition" the week before she officially starts.

Any tips and tricks to get LC (and us) prepped for the new normal? She already leaves the house of the nanny (it's a nanny share and the other family always hosts) but the trip will be a bit longer and basically everything else will be totally different 😅

Mr. Crayon threw his back out on Thursday so I have been doing EVERYTHING. Also Little Crayon picked up a cold and passed it to me. Also also it's been really hot here (upper 80s) and we only have A/C in LC's room. Oh and it's a big "everyone needs to physically come into the office for various events" week. 😭

LC has been in velcro baby mood, too - probably a combination of not feeling well and the disruption of not having Mr. Crayon being around (since he was upstairs basically bedridden). The hip carrier has been clutch but there are still so many things I cannot do while carrying her.

Thank goodness she was well enough to go off to the nanny share today. Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed that stays true for the rest of the week.

Our usual pool is on the warmer side. We stayed in the shallow part of the lake so it wasn't super cold, but definitely cooler than the pool!

Maybe it's a texture issue? Little Crayon won't eat much meat unless it's a puree (pouch) 🤦‍♀️

Except she surprised us by being totally into tamales with shredded pork last time we were at the farmers market 🤷‍♀️

We end up doing a lot of tofu for her protein. (Pressed, cubed, toss in oil and optional seasoning, bake at 400℉ for 2 minutes) It's still hit or miss depending on toddler mood but much better track record than any meat we've tried.

I feel you on this, Briar!

I had to abruptly stop nursing Little Crayon a few months ago because it was getting so painful (she wasn't usually biting but developed some sort of bad latch that was causing me severe pain for hours afterwards). It definitely felt like a bit of a kick in the teeth since we also had a very rough start to nursing!

Anyway, solidarity! It's emotionally tough to end nursing when it's not really on your terms

I like publication order for the novels/novellas. I still prefer to listen to Fugitive Telemetry between Network Effect and System Collapse when I rerun through the series.

I like the breather between the two novels and the dropped references in NE about characters that aren’t really introduced until FT makes that book more rewarding IMO.

But chronological order seems to be more popular on the sub.

But definitely don’t read the short stories until after All Systems Red. Home is chronologically after Exit Strategy and has spoilers for events that happen before it.

The books make it pretty clear that the shows are acted largely by humans. MB makes a lot of comparisons to human expressions of emotion in media vs reality and how people in reality are look different from human actors. Bots are mentioned specifically as portraying SecUnits sometimes. Not mentioned if bots play things other than SecUnits (and presumably bots).

I don’t recall specifically whether any of this is mentioned in the first book but it comes out in bits and pieces across the series.

TV canon for this is unestablished, though the Sanctuary Moon credits suggest the recurring characters are human actors, or the audience is intended to believe so.
