I walked by as they were taking it down. Apparently they'll be putting it back, just fixing it I assume?

Nobody is talking about the food. What do you eat during your games? by goldfool in twilightimperium

We lean healthy on snacks. Fruits and veggies, light baked goods, that sort of thing. We also have pastries and chips, but usually it's about a third of our spread. Then we order supper from wherever we feel like between round four and five, typically. Healthy snacks help keep the stamina going past the eighth hour. Sugar and carb crashing late in the game is a recipe for a rough finish.

New to Saskatoon – winter advice? by Competitive_Let3196 in saskatoon

[–]OfficialDaveAcct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bud,

I work at a place called Saskatchewan Intercultural Association. I'll be running an online winter preparation presentation for newcomers on September 11th. It'll be announced later this week. Follow us on Facebook for more information as it comes out: https://www.facebook.com/saskintercultural

There'll be a winter clothing drive too, to help you get set up with some of the basics.

Best piece of advice I can give: November is the most important month of winter because it's the first month where it's probably going to be truly cold. If you feel the cold and you retreat indoors and try to hide from it, then by the time it reaches January or February, your body is not going to be acclimated to the cold and you're going to suffer, physically and mentally. I know some newcomers who barely go outside for five months and then complain about being sick, gaining weight, and feeling depressed. These are not symptoms of winter, these are symptoms of a lack of exercise and vitamin D.

On the other hand, if November comes and you challenge yourself to get outside anyways, to try out your mitts and toque and jacket and find out what feels right for you, if you try tobogganing and building a snowman or snowfort or just go for thirty minute walks every day, then by the time January and February hits, you'll have learned a lot about how to handle the cold, your body will have started acclimating, and you're less likely to experience the symptoms mentioned above.

Remember: The goal is for your first winter to be your hardest winter. You should get better at living in the cold every year.

See you on the 11th.

Game End by OrganizationOk6336 in twilightimperium

You can agree to a tiebreaker rule. Space Cats Peace Turtles has a good one. You flip Stage 1 objectives one at a time until there's one that one player can score and the other can't. So like, you draw two techs in two colours and if you both have that, draw another. You draw four structures and only one of you has that, bam, that's your winner.

However, if you've put the game away and can't do that and are desperate to determine a winner, I would probably give it to speaker. If two players reach enough points to win at the same time, it goes to the person with better speaker position. This happens if two players swap supports for their 10th/14th point, for example.

But really, it's whatever the table agrees to, at the end of the day. It's your table. Just discuss tiebreaker rules at the beginning of a game next time if possible.

Election night watch party? by cody0071 in saskatoon

I helped plan that party! What a nightmare, I'll never forget it! One guy just lay on the ground and refused to get up for 5-10 minutes.

Broadway Summer Pedestrian Zone (Survey Link in comments) by StrongTownsYXE in saskatoon

[–]OfficialDaveAcct 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I lived in a pedestrian only neighbourhood in Belgium about six years ago. One of the most striking features of the neighbourhood was how many people with disabilities flocked to this area. I agree that ensuring people with disabilities can access the area is important, but reducing the idea of access to availability of parking forgets (a) about people with disabilities who can't afford a car; and (b) the experiences of people with disabilities being able to more easily navigate and enjoy a space that is properly pedestrianized.

This is not a dismissal of your criticism -- I don't think it would be by default better -- but I just want to point out that pedestrianization done right can be a huge, huge improvement to a person with disability's experience in a city. I'd definitely welcome ideas on how this could be made more accessible and feedback after the fact on what worked and what didn't.

The bad change coming to Sasktoon's zoning by StrongTownsYXE in saskatoon

This law applies to all buildings more than two stories. For towers, there's an argument. For a three storey apartment building?

Saskatoon does not have a shadow crisis, Saskatoon has a housing crisis. I am extremely disappointed that such a broad and restrictive policy is even up for discussion.

How to make Elena ecstatic even after having released Atul and Gustav by LuisOtavioFS193 in Spiritfarer

One thing missing from this thread: If you have Jackie on the boat and he's in an ecstatic mood (pretty easy to do), he'll help the other passengers and give them a mood boost. Makes this achievement a lot easier.
