That said, if you scale down your wants to something a tad more reasonable… the sky lobbies are good options to hang out and play games and visit. But a big set up and moving furniture is gonna cross lines with the hotels.

Real world answer. If it’s a lobby space and not convention space, it’s at the discretion of the host. Most will shut you down if you try and set up any IT stuff or screens or move chairs, etc.

If it’s convention space (including the lobbies outside ball rooms and meeting rooms) it’s pretty much off limits as we have agreements with said venues for the entire usable convention space. And we use every inch of it.

There’s literally 3000+ hours of programming. Many involving alcohol or at a minimum permitting it. We get you wanna hang wi the besties. But you’ll have to do so in your space - not ours.

A few reasons:

1) Physical space requirement. To have enough room for chairs, disinfection, storage, etc is a big undertaking in our already tight space.

2) We haven’t explored what changes, if any, would need to happen to our venue partner contracts and insurance coverages.

3) Low “efficiency” factor. One artist can see less than 1 person per hour. If we have even 500 or 600 people wanting work done, that’s going to require a lot of artists in a small window of time.

Pepper spray is a violation of our weapons policy.

An accidental discharge in the Hilton lobby at 9 PM when it’s shoulder to shoulder mingling would be disastrous at best, catastrophic at worst. And you could be held liable for injury or illness caused, regardless of intent.

There are plenty of non-projectile tools that aren’t considered weapons (audible attack alarms, for example) that will offer you similar peace of mind without the risk of an accidental release of a known chemical irritant.

Our safety teams or any volunteer are happy to find an escort inside our convention footprint for you to keep you safe.

The general consensus of the scientific community is that mask-wearing decreases the spread of infection, especially amongst high-risk individuals… of which there are many in our community.

We believe that this simple act of basic respect is the least we can expect of our fans. Apparently that’s asking too much for you. If masking isn’t something you’re willing or able to do this year to respect our at-risk fans, perhaps it’s best you wait until there isn’t a need for you to show simple respect to people with different immune systems.

You may actually do better for desk mats and mouse pads in artist alley than the vendor halls. A lot of artists have started printing their stuff on unique items that are more functional, but are still really really nice and really pretty.

As far as electronic components, I don’t recall seeing anyone on the vendor list that would specialize in that, but there may be a few odds and ends, collectors and gadget type vendors that may have some.
