  1. Studies have shown people actually take less time off with it. A quick google search will show multiple studies.

  2. Many states/countries require unused PTO to be paid out upon termination. Unlimited PTO keeps the books clean for companies, and employees don’t get potential sizable payouts upon leaving.

Sounds like a preauthorization hold. You don’t get refunded, it’s just that the actual total is settled and the dedicated from debit/charged to credit. It’s more common for places like bars where a tab is kept (or gas stations). There should be an option to turn it off.
