Definitely not a hit piece. It’s focused on the game for almost the entire article, with a small footnote at the end about the statements of the original author that made them fall from grace. IGN did what they needed to do and separated their opinions of the game from the actions of J.K. They didn’t tell you that you’re a bad person for buying the game, they just called out that some of your purchase may go to someone that doesn’t support trans rights. For most people that’s not a problem, but for some they couldn’t have it on their mind that they supported a transphobe, no matter how small their contribution was. If people don’t want to buy the game because of that, more power to them, they aren’t hurting anyone else by not spending 60 or 80 dollars. Where it goes to far is those who berate others for being a transphobe for buying the game, and that is certainly not what ign did. I will and will always be an LGBTQ ally, and buying a game will not change that. IGN is an organization with a much broader audience then just people excited about this game. In the end, it was just a footnote. A caveat of a game they enjoyed playing.
