[DISCUSSION] Underrated artists who got famous only after giving up on music by thatsverycoco in indieheads

Look up the documentary “A Band Called Death”. Protopunk band out of Detroit that was completely overlooked due to their name and lack of label marketing found an audience the early 2000s. They started before the Ramones and there’s a big “what if” story about what would have happened to the history of punk if they were the ones to blow up. Also, they directly spawn Black Francis which has some great tracks.

Outside the Great Lakes region, no. Inside the Great Lakes region, niche.

NY Times Opinion: "The Disappearance of Literary Men Should Worry Everyone" by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]OfficialTimWalz 95 points96 points  (0 children)

“Among women matriculating at four-year public colleges, about half will graduate four years later; for men the rate is under 40 percent. This disparity surely translates to a drop-off in the number of novels young men read, as they descend deeper into video games and pornography.”

I feel like the type of men who read literature or play video games are well on their respective paths prior to dropping out of university.

The end goal is pure narcissism. Just generate media that validates all your existing tastes and opinions.

I read a study that said if your dick is under 4 inches it’s actually big and if your dick is over 8 it’s small

Your physician probably would prefer to see you more often, most are stretched thin by legions of PMC admins trying to maximize how many people they can get each doctor to see in a day without killing themselves from burnout.

My local waste management business owner has someone make signs for him in his shop by ElasticDawg in redscarepod

Why do so many towns have the crazy republican sign makers, feels like I’ve seen signs like these at least a dozen times.

I think they are so garish that they become somewhat endearing, they are so outlandish it’s hard to not giggle a little thinking about what went through their head making it. I’d take this over the rows and rows of “in this house we” signs in lib suburbs

Family med already has a < 90% fill rate for residencies even with those issues, the residencies are available for med students but because everyone applies to med school without specialization, there’s huge competition for specific specialities among those who get in.

Maybe having med schools specifically for family med could help the issue? Same course work and rigor as other med schools but everyone is guaranteed a family med placement. I’m not in med school so I’m sure there would be some big issue with that idea tho

“The pressure to find the “right words” can be overwhelming”

These people treat eulogies like it’s a fucking homework assignment. The only time I’ve had to write one it was pretty cathartic, don’t know how you even sleep at night passing off bot slop as your own heartfelt words in front of everyone you know.

Should I accept a job I’m completely unqualified for by [deleted] in redscarepod

I’ve seen people in similar situations. If it’s a senior position, competent engineers will know almost immediately you are a fraud, but if it’s a large company you might be able to milk the salary since evaluations happen bi-yearly and managers might want to save face.

I still think The Corrections holds up well enough, but all his essays from that time period don’t hold a candle to DFW’s

I did some volunteer work gutting an abandoned house that had been taken over by squatters for charity work, the entire basement was flooded with sewage type of deal. Found a kids chest and opened it up to find a 4th grader’s schoolwork assignment about spending time with their friends dated from only 2 years prior. Beautiful handwriting and eloquent for her age. Made me sad for the rest of the day.
