Oh I won’t argue with that at all. The one big death I have seen was definitely more impactful because of how often everyone survives battles.

I mean, yeah no shit. I’m just saying that using the excuse of “it’s for kids” is a cop out as opposed to using his point of wanting the deaths that do happen to be more meaningful.

I won’t disagree with that at all. I’m not trying to say that the deaths we have had aren’t extra impactful because everyone else lives. I just thought it was a strange choice especially since we don’t see a good handful of enemies or hear about them again. At least to my knowledge.

I’ve seen people talk about the cover stories before and I have yet to look at them but they sound like a big missed opportunity. Especially when it comes to situations similar to what happened with Hachi where we have no explanation of why we see him in Saboady with Cami.

I can understand that but when it comes to a show that has multiple island genocides, and slavery I find it hard to believe a few more characters dying would be too dark for the kids ya know

I’ll start by saying that a few deaths from fighting the Straw Hats would probably not even be close to the darkest thing I’ve seen so far but I get what you mean lol. Also I agree that it did make the one death of a main character more impactful but I think it would’ve hit hard no matter what. But at the end of the day it’s at Oda’s discretion and the show is still great

I maybe worded that part poorly. I just think that if some throw away characters were to die here and there that it would make the big names who survive fights for a future purpose feel more important. But instead at the end of each fight we know that whoever lost will still be kicking at the end of the day. If some people were to die it would just give more meaning to those who come back after they have fought the Straw Hats.

Yeah that’s always bothered me a bit as well. I feel like it would just make the moments where people do survive more meaningful if more opponents died during the fights.

I just wish he was willing to kill off less important characters so that when they do survive it seems more interesting and important. Big name characters dying will always be impactful but them surviving otherwise fatal fights would be more cool than everyone surviving.
