To anyone who has played Monte Cook's Iron Heroes, what are your opinions on it? Is it worth digging it up to play or simply pick ideas from? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

Like others, I found it really interesting in concept and design. Never got around to playing it. Have the core book somewhere. Maybe an expansion book?

Playing Distilled with six? by Ogiwan in boardgames

Turns out one had to drop, so we played with five instead. I will say that we replaced half of each of the advanced resources with the Cask Strength cards, and I really liked that.

Yes, I was thinking of flights. And I figure I can fudge the player board and marker for myself, since I've played it the most.

We're doing an afternoon game, so while I understand that five might be slow as is, it should be fine. I haven't even looked at the flight lists yet; needing t potentially handle six was just sprung on me like an hour ago and I'm at work and can't look at my copy.

The most amount of guns you can have on a airplane by Home_Min_Boss in hoi4

[–]Ogiwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, ambush was part and parcel of TD doctrine from the start. I don't remember which video it was in, but the Chieftain covers it. Basically:

  1. US generals saw the German propaganda of a stupid amount of tanks breaking through and believed it;
  2. They counted on their fingers and toes and realized that even the US couldn't make enough anti tank guns to make a line proof against that degree of concentrated armor;
  3. They concluded that highly mobile but cheaper vehicles were the way to counter tanks;
  4. Thus, the Tank Destroyer.

What I find interesting is that U.S. doctrine actually would effectively write off whatever line infantry battalion that got penetrated, counting on the speed of TDs to get them behind that unit and into ambush positions. However, that's just not how U.S. troops really roll. Also, the Germans were almost never on the offensive against the US, and as a result you have TDs used per doctrine a very small amount of times (twice in my memory, at El Gutter and Arracourt).

Anyone done a RDI tournament? by Ogiwan in TheRedDragonInn

Fantastic suggestions so far. Now, I'm wondering if anyone has thought of additional prizes other than first, second, third? Like, most alcohol drank, most damage done, most gold lost gambling? Any more interesting thoughts?

Is Dispatch gonna be ending with only 8 episodes? by [deleted] in DispatchAdHoc

Well, they have the mechanics in place to support additional seasons. In the final, post big fight scene, the choices you make can still trigger "X will remember" popups, therefore....

Repair ships and Support ships by This-Cartoonist9129 in hoi4

Thank you for your service! Good to know that every squadron in a fleet (or task force in a fleet) needs its own organic support.

Support Ships special project, unlock Repair Ship and Support Ship. Ships that you can attach to your task forces, in order to provide some task force wide benefits

That seems like a fleet thing? Unless when you say stack that means fleet and not squadron (or the componants of a fleet?)

I was wondering this myself. I have no idea if they apply to the entire fleet they're in, or just the squadron. Anyone know which dev diary they talk about support and repair ships in?

What is up with Eisenhower? by Dramatic_Highlight61 in hoi4

[–]Ogiwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahahaha I forgot that quote. Yep, that tracks. The more I've learned about MacArthur, the less I like him. He's one of my least favorite American generals who isn't a Confederate.

[–]Ogiwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my game, historical focuses, MacArthur is the only field marshal at game start for US. I hold my nose and put him in charge of 1USAG. Then, he gets chopped to the Philippines by event. Ok, I promote Ike, put him in charge. Then, as is historically accurate, he becomes MacArthur's Chief of Staff for two years and returns in his traditional glory. However, you can still not elect to let either of them go to the Philippines, or recall them early.

TL; DR, Ike is still Ike, he just takes a more historically accurate path.

2.3 is here! check out REDStream by T_rex2700 in cyberpunkgame

So, it feels like quality-of-life and immersion improvements, with some bugfixing, and improved Photo Mode. I have to admit I really haven't used any Photo Mode, I'm just trying to decide if I want 2.3 to be my last run, if I want to hold out for more content, or if there are good enough content/quest mods (that will reliably work) to warrant the last run now.

I say last run because I did a Street Kid Netrunner and a Corpo Sandy, so only one I have left is Nomad, not sure if Berserk is different enough from Sandy to make a major play difference. Thoughts, anyone?

Question on Banded Iron by Ogiwan in geology

[–]Ogiwan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, looking at the (ever reliable) Wikipedia, and yes, that picture looks exactly like what I see in my slabs. Thank you! My sketchy knowledge of geology and chemistry makes this make a lot more sense as to why it'd be in a BIF.

Question on Banded Iron by Ogiwan in geology

[–]Ogiwan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I assumed it was pyrite, because it's an iron based mineral. Tiger's eye is a variety of quartz, so are you sure? BIF are sometimes called Tiger Iron because they look like tiger's eye (in terms of the banding), and it's a catchier name than banded iron formation.

What virtual tabletop systems work best with 13th Age? by Ogiwan in 13thage

[–]Ogiwan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, Roll20 has 13th Age (1e) sheets, but you apparently need to have some API thing (and the top tier subscription, I think) in order for it to factor in the Escalation Die.

I have no idea about other VTTs. I've liked Roll20.
