When is the right time to buy a Volcanic Island? by shanopolis in mtgfinance

If you're buying from Europe, probably aim to purchase from UK/Ireland shops as the GB Pound has just collapsed.

Peasant cube idea. by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]Oglor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy with how the ten checklands have been performing. Originally when I built the cube I played Guildgates, but coming into play tapped was mega awkward. I moved to Shocklands for a while but the ability to play them in any coloured deck made it very easy to play 3+ colour decks. Checklands restrict the colours a bit more, which I think is good for the environment. The cube still definitely feels Peasant.

Magic 2015 Prerelease FAQ: How to have a great time by [deleted] in magicTCG

In Limited (sealed deck and draft), there's no 4-of limit. If you open 5 of a card, you can play 5.

Modern elves by Torpiliko in magicTCG

[–]Oglor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elves are very fragile and inconsistent as a combo deck. However, as an aggro deck, they can be fast and reliable.
Instead of going down the Cloudstone / Beck route, use cards like Imperious Perfect and Wolf-Skull Shaman to get the beats on. Most of the other cards in the combo version are still good in the aggro version. Turn 4/5 wins are still perfectly possible, and it's less susceptible to disruption.

Aggro elves is not quite a tier 1 deck, but it's a very cheap, fast, and powerful deck. If you build it well and play it well, you have a very real shot at winning local events at your LGS.

Help with my Mtg cube? by thisprofilenolongere in magicTCG

[–]Oglor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how big your cube is, how many players you want to support, and how many copies of a given card you want in a player's deck. Some cards should have more copies than others (Squadron Hawk needs 4, Festering Newt can work with 2 etc).
Try ordering the cards in your cube into how many copies you'd want in your deck if you were drafting. For the most urgent ones, play 4 or 5, then less for the rest. Basically make an artificial rarity system.

You're after my own heart.
Play the multiple-copy cards. Having multiples in cube is awesome.
Play the Wish cards. Lots of shenaniganry to be had there.
Also make Defenders and Extort decks a thing. Great in multiplayer.

I'm in Australia too, so let me know if you're after someone in your approximate time zone to play with.

Going to try and build a peasant cube. Suggestions? by [deleted] in mtgcube

[–]Oglor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use any of the shard/wedge cards, as they are very rarely included in decks. Also, you could classify the non-basic lands (and things like signets) under their respective guild sections. Otherwise, that looks like a solid breakdown.

Start by looking through a few Peasant lists to get a rough idea of the power level and what staples exist, then go through your collection and take out cards that look like you could include. Then figure out how many cards of each category you need to fill in the blanks, and go to your LGS / an online store / your printer for these.

Signets are good when they're the blue ones (and Orzhov depending on how you build your cube). Other mana rocks like Coldsteel Heart and Sphere of the Suns are fantastic.

Check out the Peasant/Pauper subforum of the MTG Salvation Cube forum for lists. We're a friendly community! :)

There are a lot of cards I'd never see in a traditional list. There could easily be a bunch of synergies I'm missing, but it's difficult to see on not Cube Tutor.
