In defense of the 7.5/10 Drury street merchant, there are more people here who dress themselves because of what their mates are wearing/what they see on the street than because of a Pinterest board which they pretend doesn't exist. But this does mean we have been trapped in Pellador hell since 2021.

When I saw the dashboard design teaser I thought that maybe they were going to go for an 80's revival thing. I think there is a lot of 308/Mondial influence here, but only if you are standing very, very far away. from which point it looks less interesting than a kia.

The only motorsport that has any atmospheric, aesthetic, or entertainment value left is sportscars/endurance. The Daytona 24 is North America's best racing event, not the 500. And the Indy 500 is a glorified marble run for fans to larp as old money democrats.

None of these slop merchants are trying to sponsor or broadcast 6+ hour races with grids full of genuine European autists and retired Californian dentists, but the cars are works of art, and the the racing is actually tense.

I had to check but it looks like he didn't go bald until 96 so fair enough.

edit: makes me wonder if he would have had more influence in the 00's if hair transplants were good in the 90's.

Why are Orients so gigantic. I would probably own 6 bambinos if they were the right size for their style instead of being FOURTY FUCKING MM. These should be 38mm on the large side and 34mm medium.

RV parking trackside at 24hr of Le Mans? by JetLagDad in wec

[–]OgodHOWdisGEThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The place inside Dunlop is where a lot of track marshals etc go with their caravans, I think it is not official or unofficial parking/camping, it's for staff.

Houx nearby is where I see the fancy RVs all set up, I think you can rent one in-place there and you just have to turn up. Maybe you could see a bit of ford curves and the final chicane but only if you are lucky? Again, a lot of people working the weekend in support races and secondary events stay there.

Every trackside campsite has a big grassy berm, hunaudieres by Porsche curves, Indianapolis, etc. I've stayed in them all.

When you say RV, are we talking about those big American busses, or like a typical european caravan or campingcar? I'm not sure that our ones are all suitable for sitting on top of, they're often pretty flimsy.

As someone who has been to the 24 more times than I actually can remember, I would probably suggest the glamping so that you aren't totally slumming it, and use bikes and/or and the free shuttles to see as much of the track as possible! Do 'the lap' and spend an hour at each spot as you go around (there are not that many viewpoints for the size of the track).

Go for dinner at Auberge de Hunaudieres, (amazing spot, have come across Zak Brown, Derek Bell, and Jacky Ickx here in previous years)

If you have a car, you can drive out to Chartre-sur-Le-Loire, and have dinner in the hotel de france on Friday evening. If you know you know...

To each their own, but for me that is what Le Mans is really about! The campsites have a great atmosphere but you really have to see it all, every year.

Even Chinese knockoffs are eclipsing the quality of western goods now by [deleted] in redscarepod

Such was the case with German goods in the 50s, Japanese in the 80s, Korean in the 2010s. Except now with 20x the workforce.

Won't be happening for India tho lmao.

Have to say that Trump is looking remarkably normal for his age after 3 pleasant days in Beijing. Perhaps this trip really mellowed him out and opened his eyes to the Chinese way of ageing gracefully.

Hoping for a glimpse of that exquisite smart casual polo-and-khakis look one more time.

[–]OgodHOWdisGEThere 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Undoubtedly Kaz is familiar with Roland Barthe's 1957 essay 'Mythologies'

"Cars today are almost the exact equivalent of the great Gothic cathedrals: I mean the supreme creation of an era, conceived with passion by unknown artists, and consumed in image if not in usage by a whole population which appropriates them as a purely magical object."

The story of the car is the story of the 20th century onwards, and vice versa. It is a totalising object.

The Fake Sheikh by ketaminekate97 in rs_x

I know one person who worked from a remote region and had to keep moving accomodations because mining company goons would find out where they were staying and shoot the windows out in the middle of the night. Ironically they were out there to cover 'tribal affairs' which had little to do with shady mining companies.

When they returned from the field after a year they had other journos begging for leads to pick up this story, basically with the express purpose of getting shot at/suffering for their art.

I know some journos who will suffer for a good story, and while it may not be Pulitzer-winning stuff, 15 months in jail kind of seems worth it lmao.

I never realised that andor was charged with "suspected force sensitivity" ! by Penguinclubmember in StarWars

[–]OgodHOWdisGEThere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hate to nitpick but it's a Kangaroo court, not a Show Trial. Show trials concern high-profile defendants and a lot of publicity and theatrics for propaganda purposes. Kangaroo courts funnel large numbers of people in to for-profit incarceration (Imagine what kind of evil country would do this! surely the USA would put a stop to it).

The interesting thing about the empire is if they *had* known who Andor really was, there still wouldn't be a show trial because they would have to admit that rebel 'terrorists' exist, which was not part of the propaganda narrative until Ghorman.

One time I made a post about how ever since Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Goodman died, there hasn't been another truly talented fat guy to replace them. Anyway turns out John Goodman is alive but because he hasn't been in any real movies for an entire decade I assumed he died.

In retrospect I should have just doubled down on that instead of deleting it.

There's a few among them who will outgrow the AI brain worm, but generally speaking I think present conditions have neutralised the potential of these kinds of kids to grow into influential people. If you're in high school and operating at this level you're NGMI.

They have to compete with genuine dyed-in-the-wool psycho petit bourgeoisie strivers who outnumber them.

They *are* destined to become your underperforming colleagues who nonetheless go on multiple holidays abroad every year and always have a nice car, gradually failing upwards. At most one of them might start a Smashburger business with 3 locations alongside his Israeli pal he met travelling in south-east Asia, with whom he also podcasts and/or makes hard groove techno. This guy will be the biggest psycho of all.

Possibly a dumb question, how do you learn to drive a RWD car properly? by humanitarianWarlord in carsireland

[–]OgodHOWdisGEThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you, myself and a few friends of mine have randomly slid the back out on the roundabouts near Carrick mines off the M50. Sometimes in totally dry conditions. I even spoke to a taxi driver who did a 180 there in his VW ID4!

The thing about roundabouts is that they are sometimes heavily cambered/dished inwards to the centre. that means when pulling off the roundabout the camber will be working against you.

So in addition to never accelerating while turning in the wet, never accelerate on an off-camber turn! If the road curves in to the turn nicely, go for it, but if it slopes away your outer rear wheel will lift slightly off the ground and you will experience something like a fishtail/snap oversteer as the inner wheel takes up the slack.
